Huh? China is massing troops off the coast of Taiwan? no no nooooo

Needs to be a multiple choice poll. I would:

'Splode Paris
Teach North Korea a lesson it wouldn't soon forget
Take over the world
Establish an interstellar empire

In that order.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Why 'splode Paris? Just because the French are there doesn't mean we should destroy all the historical landmarks, lovely architecture, great museums and art, etc.

If we're going to pick a city to 'splode, I vote for L.A. ****ers.

I would systematically cauterize the Bible Belt, and then jaunt off into space to explore and conquer.

While you are correct in your last to statements, there is no room in our Interstellar Empire for historical landmarks, lovely architecture, great museums and art, etc.

Well, first I'd get the nations of the world to get their ****ing act together. For example, Bush is immediately removed from office...I think I'll use Sava as my new puppet, considering he WILL only be a puppet.

Then, yes, the ultimatum to the Middle East: Play nice or die.

Afterwards--ensure that I will be megaruler of Earth until the end of time. Maybe colonize space--depends.

Yes, but in SW literature, a Star Destroyer is sort of like its own carrier battle group + marine expeditionary force - over 72 assorted fighters, bombers, and gunboats, thousands of troops, armored regiments, 60 heavy turbolasers and 60 heavy ion cannon, and deflector shields that can take 100 megaton blasts without failing.

Six can reduce a planet to molten rock in a day, IIRC.

Sure -- but what's one carrier battle group against dozens or hundreds or thousands of other carrier battle groups?

Carlos: sure, but they have one hell of a head start.

It IS!

Especially in comparision to Executer SSD's and Home One star crusiers.Remember, most of the Rebel fleet at Endor was composed of frigates and corvettes. Alhtough the Flagship was over 3 km long.

No, it's an Imperator-class Star Destroyer. Star Destroyer is an entire classification of ship, referring to a ship that has the power of a battleship but also significant troop and starfighter capacity. There is also a Victory-class Star Destroyer, which was developed before the fall of the Republic and is a somewhat antiquated design, though still in widespread use (kinda like the B-52, a Star Destroyer design is made to last). The Super-class Star Destroyer (like the Executor) was developed some time between the Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Hoth, and was intended to serve primarily as the flagship of a fleet. At the time of the Battle of Hoth, only four had been contructed.

I presume that this baby has a decent set of star maps, complete with data on the planets of thousands of systems, right? I'd load this baby up with the cream of humanity, fly them to a nice uninhabited Gaia-class planet, and start human history all over.

Even money as to whether or not I'd slag the earth first. Anyone want to help me decide?

He is. Incidently, there were plenty more than 4 Executer-SSD's as of Endor. ("Relax kid there are lots of command ships")

The Rebel Flagship at Endor was Home One, over 3 km in length, more than 1.3 km longer than the ISD Deuces.

The earliest novels ever, (The Han Solo Trilogy) referenced Invincible-class battleships used by the Corporate Sector. They were over 2 km long.

ISD's are unremarkable sizewise when compared to Other large capital ships.

Wrong on almost all counts. The Home One was only an MC-80 Calamari Star Cruiser modified with additional hangar capacity. The MC-80 is about as powerful as a Victory and about as long (1200 meters). The MC-80b (developed about two years after the Battle of Endor) is somewhat more powerful than a Victory, and the MC-90 (developed over a decade after Endor) is about as powerful as an Imperator. The Executor was 8 km long. And the Rebel fleet at Endor actually contained somewhere between 10 and 15 Star Cruisers. See my above post for other reasons you are wrong.

Yes, something like six. Notice that I said at Hoth. Also, Executor is not a class of Star Destroyer, it's the name of an individual one.

Huh, I don't recall anything about a 2 km long ship in those books. Still, proves nothing.

No, ISD's are unremarkable sizewise because at the height of the Imperial Navy, there were 25,000 Star Destroyers

Nope,uh-huh. The differences are too astute, MC80's have wings.

Correct.

Correct (Though a ISD II would still beat it)

(Thrawn said a dozen crusiers and several smaller ships. Close enough)

The Executor was damn near 18 km long. Don't believe me? History of the 5-mile fallacy below.

Incidently, a better description of it would be a "Commandship". After all, there was no SSD titled Super, was there?

The original "MC-80"'s were very diverse in design. Remember, they were modified space liners, and each Mon Calamari ship is somewhat unique.

No, the Eclipse was about 20 km, IIRC (I never read the comics). And, despite your pictures, watch The Empire Strikes Back again. The ISD's are clearly NOT a tenth of the Executor's length. Also the site you provided talks about maritime convention when talking about the naming; however, a) maritime convention doesn't necessarily apply and b) it's not a Destroyer, it's a Star Destroyer.

quote:

Exactly, because it was the CLASS of Star Destroyer. The Super Super Star Destroyer?
