I wouldn't worry about Monkey - if they aren't bothering us into the modern ages, there's really no need to go for the final elimination.
And, on the note of diplomacy - why exactly do we want to borrow horses from CoD? Besides, to end the horse deal before 20 turns, we'd have to declare war against CoD, which would also entail the loss of silks...

To build some Horsemen, so that we have something to upgrade to Cavalry later. Our current offensive unit is the Longbowman, and that is a slow-mover. In case of an invasion, a mobile force is much better suited for defense.
This would look like so: We borrow Horses for a few turns, and make as many Horsemen as possible (depending on the duration of the deal). We build up cash for an instant upgrade. Once we get Military Tradition, we borrow Horses for one turn, upgrade all Horsemen and put new Cavalry into build queues. That could bring us up to a reasonable number, I think.
We will also need Iron at some point to upgrade our Catapults to Cannons. Of course, this one requires cash too...

I should not be doing this anymore, you know. But my precious empire necessity dictates to make sure we get Silks next turn, so this went to Krill:
quote:
Hi,
No Silks deal came this turn. I am not sure about PBEM mechanics here, so maybe there is no problem except for my lack of experience. Gave things to Governors anyway, just to be safe. Please remember to send Silks. Thank you in advance.
We got Monarchy now, to use the Hanging Gardens as a fallback plan (in case all other wonders go boom). Not sure yet if we will be trading this to anyone except you, so it stays in the safe for now. Once things are sorted out, I think we will simply forward the tech accepted.
Started Education, and it seems surprisingly easy to get. Either the combination of the difficulty level with our GA and recent infrastructure improvement is doing this, or somebody already has the tech.

His reply, and my reply to his reply. Apparently he sent Silks, but the game missed it somehow.
quote:
Hi,
Well, Silks did not come, so I figured I better ask. Darned buggy game.
quote:
On a related note, do you know how the tech costs are calculated? I know how, but I don't know how much each tech "point" costs. I was wondering on if you could enlighten me to this end. |
No, I don't. I know which techs cost more, and which are good to have to sell to the AI. No details ever interested me. But are they so important? It seems you can get efficient enough by tweaking the slider on the last two turns of researching the tech.
quote: Also, on a rather important note, I have been thinking about what is going to happen to the LL land. Or rather, who gets to keep it? If Tabemono get it, they are going to become an even bigger monster than they already are. Luckily they come out of a GA soon (this turn, IIRC), so we can have alook at where they are compared to us two. But A palace jump is quite is easy to pull off if you know how. |
We are too far to help out. I only hope they lose enough units not to try for a jump over the sea before serious defenses are up at Camelot.
quote: Then there is MAST to consider. Why are they helping Tabemono if Mast don't get something in return? Something like SunShine land... (and yes, I can be quite paranoid at times...)
|
Not so paranoid, methinks. But can we stop that? Monty has no fleet to speak of, so any action would require a serious (and long...) preparation first. Not to mention our depleted offensive capabilities. I think the only thing we can really do now is try helping Sunshine by giving them techs.
There is one other thing to discuss, concerning both defense and offense. We were thinking about borrowing your Horses for a few turns to prebuild Horsemen, and later borrowing Horses for one turn for a quick Cavalry upgrade. To cancel the deal, you could simply cut the resource (if that is allowed...). Getting Horses from Monkey Island (or whatever they call it) would take long, be very tedious, and probably very time- and resource-consuming.

Krill, for now has a private forum all to himself. Emperorhood here I come...

I am the official (you could say: self-appointed ) chief of interior, and turn player. And of everything else, if need be. I hope OctavianX will pick up the diplomacy soon (summer holidays approaching). At least I got people to comment on affairs on a more or less regular basis.
