Teach me computers Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

1) I was installing a new program and noticed in the install/uninstall place that there are programs listed there that were already uninstalled or deleted, just not this way. When I try to delete it, there is an error thing appearing. Why is that so, and how can I get rid of
this problem?

2) When I open my comp, a lot of windows open each time. My sister is probably responsible. How can I turn it off?

- Go to "Tools"
- Open the second tab
- Scroll all the way down, you should see "Restore windows and folders on restart "
- Disable it.

Forgot about that, you will need another program to remove them. Try this one, it´s free.

point 1:

Does the error message say that it can't find certain files or folders? If not, can you post the error message? I'll assume for now that it does...

When you take a program off your computer do you always properly uninstall it (ie. using the program's own uninstaller or Windows' one?), or do you just delete the folders from your hard drive?

If it's the latter then I think we've just found your problem.

Start > Programs > Startup

If there's a load of useless crappy programs in there then delete the shortcuts from that folder and reboot.

RegCleaner is a good free program for deleting those unwanted leftovers. Were you a mac user (which might explain not using the uninstallers) ?

Link to download RegCleaner:
http://www.webmasterfree.com/regcleaner.html

quote:
RegCleaner v. 3.8 (413 Kb)

With RegCleaner you can easily get rid of those old and obsolete registry entries created by software that you have destroyed ages ago.

You don´t have to be an expert to use this program. Note that this program is not like those other so called registry cleaners, they search any filenames from registry, then if the file doesn´t exist anymore they remove the registry key or value where this filename was.

But RegCleaner shows you the list of software that are registered in the registry and by checking checkboxes you select which software you don´t have anymore and RegCleaner removes all registry created by those programs automatically.

You can also remove start up programs that are started behind your back and can dramatically decrease your computer´s performance.

Small in size, free and very easy to use!

Thanks, it worked. You've been a great help.
Now some next questions. One I was supposed to ask
(why my old computer restarts when I want it to close itself)
is not actual. Somehow it stopped.

So, next questions.
1) In Windows, there is a "Temp" folder. What is it, and can I delete its content without doing anything bad? It's over 200MB, and my old computer has just 1,2GB, so it's a lot of place, You know
2) I saved the Europe-Italy thing on my computer, and moved to another. But there's no Flash there, and it seems that it is needed for opening it. What other programs, that may be in Windows Millenium, could be suitable for opening it? It says that it is "Shockwave Flash Object".
Eventually I could move Flash to that computer, but I'm lazy, so I ask.

3) I always wondered. If I'm downloading a net site, and images of it, leaving original names, will the images appear in proper places of the pages, if I open them?

4)Why, sometimes, it wasnts me to save things just as "attachements"?

5)I think I was downloading something, but there's no sign of it. What could've happened? No, I didn't delete it.

6)Can I search with exclusion of some folders?

7)Can I search more than one type of files at 1 time?

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

1) - Yes, you can delete the contents of it. Like the name suggests it is only supposed to be a Temporary folder. Windows doesn't keep anything important there.

2) - download the Macromedia Flash Player from here: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave...anguage=English
I don't think there are any pre-installed programs that will run Flash files. You have to download the plug-in for web browsers or the stand-alone version to view them.

3) - I'm not sure what you mean. If you download the html code for a website and all the images, and the images are in the right subfolders so the code is telling the browser to look in the right place, then the page should work fine if you double-click the HTML file when not online.

4) - This happens quite a lot on Apolyton. It's a bug in the forums or something. You should be able to override it by typing the correct file extension yourself (for example .SAV or .jpg)

5) - Make sure you downloaded it into the right directory. You might also try a File Search for it's name. Otherwise look in Temporary Internet Files.

6 and 7) - I don't know.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

6) Nope, not with windows search anyway.
7) Yes... Not if you use the file type drop-down box, but you can use multiple file extensions for the filename. Separate them with a space, comma, or semi-colon. E.g. *.sav *.scn *.mp would find all civ2 savegames, scenarios and maps.
