ANNOUNCMENT: Consular Replacement Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Arnelos will assume my duties at 12:01 AM August 1.

I will be around that day, but will be extremely busy getting stuff ready to go.

Arenelos, I need you to post here saying that you accept this postion in order for it to be official.

I will return on or near August 10. I will post here when I am able to resume my duties as a Consul.

I want to thank Arnelos for accepting this position. good luck in the wars ahead.

Inflate your Upload Space

I accept.

Now, what I need is a template of the reporting format so I can fill that in (should I ever actually process a save). People seemed to like the format I used in the SPDG, so I can add some of that stuff if it ever comes around to me and it's not in there.

Thanks.

Arn - do what we all do: copy and paste from the last turn! Fill in any changes and accidentally leave in one or puzzling things from last turn just to confuse matters.

It might help if all orders carried out that weren't scheduled in the turnthread were italicised. Just look at the last few turns to see what happens.

Usually, the turn is received and emailed to those in the chat who need to help out - particularly Trip (TripGot@hotmail.com), and Togas (tom_ogas@yahoo.com) if they are there, and discussion ensues about things, you or others around check for new info (new embassies, what the Galleys discovered whilst using the fortify all trick, tech costs, demographics changes, other civs' new/dead/changed cities, check the military advisor for our relative strength and where the closest barbs are) whilst someone posts "before" screenshots of our lands, the Galleys, Demographics and anything else of special interest. Then the turn is played in extensive consultation in chat, particularly with Ministers. We have 4 hours or so from when it arrives, so there is no great rush, and there should be time enough to clarify most grey areas with the Ministers/Ambassadors. You should be updating the copy/paste from last turn with your orders as you go. Ensure you account for all the orders specified beforehand, and if there is anything missing let everyone in chat know and find a solution if the Minister is not present.

Once the turn is done, post the orders carried out and send the save to both msdg@civfanatics.net and intersitepbem@mongoose201.com. Then you will need to go to the UN site here and post in the Time Counter thread that the save was sent to CFC. Once that is done, go to the savegame service thread in our Poly forum and post the receieved and sent times as recorded by the posts in the UN Time Counter thread (take the time reported as SENT from the Netatolians as the time we received the save). Then you can rest.

Of course you shouldn't need to do any of this on your own, as nye and/or I should be about as well, depending on the times involved. This is just in case we are stuck some where.

If you can post or PM me your email address I will inform the UN of the temporary addition to our addresses where they send the save.

I was just about to comment on this: I think it is confusing that sometimes comments are copied from the last turn. For example, the comment "our units are on our side of the border now" has been in the turnlog for quite some time. This confuses matters (for me, at least).

Should we make a structured checklist of things a Consul needs to do at a minimum before playing and sending the turn? It would contain checks, such as "check for unhappiness" and "check whether other civs have discovered certain techs". It would also contain "things to do", such as "post on the 1BC Forum" and "send turn on to players X and Y".

With this, I hope to avoid missing crucial information, like the establishing of the embassy by GCA a few turns ago.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I attended each chat and participated in some discussion. Since the reason for my being there was merely to stand in for BigFree in the event that a tie-breaker vote was needed and I was never approached by you and NYE for one, I honestly didn't feel a great deal more was needed.

I would have been happy to do turn reports if needed (I've certainly done enough of those in other democracy games), but that was never needed either.

So a rather uneventful week as a Deputy Consul. It's almost certainly better that way then if all three of you guys suddenly fell off the face of the planet or something
