SDC#3 Plan B Get a bigger avatar today!

After a couple of months of trying unsuccessfuly to get the organizers of the Scenario Design Contest #3 to respond to enquiries of contestants, Cam Hill and I have agreed to handle the judging ourselves. It is unfair to people who have put hundreds of hours into the preparation of an entry to ignore their work.

So, I invite those who have prepared entries for the FW /MGE portion of the contest ONLY -that is Jason and the Argonauts - to send their entries and codenames to Cam at sleague@apolyton.net . He will forward them on to me with only the codenames attached. If possible please send them before Christmas, so that I can play them over the holidays. That way I hope to be able to announce the results early in the new year.

We will let people know how to submit entries for the Test of Time (Dracula) portion of the contest in the new year. Because of the large sizes of ToT scenario files, we'll need to find a site with large storage capacity. Thanks to all of you for your patience.

tecumseh, i've expressed my interest before in helping judge scenarios for the FW/MGE entries.

If you still need help, I am available. I know you and Cam are probably strapped for time....

I want to see SDC3 winners for at least FW/MGE by New Years.

Sure WarVoid, thanks for your help. Let's see what we get first, then sort it out. I'm away for Christmas, but I'll be back on the 28th. I'll email you then, OK?

Just a small point of clarification...

I'm not actually judging the contest. Techumseh suggested that the entries for the FW/MGE (Jason) part be run through the Scenario League - sleague@apolyton.net rather than through HAC, as Riesmark seems to have a lot on his plate. This is not however the case with the ToT (Dracula) part of the contest, where as noted above, we'll probably arrange for an FTP upload point with those entries.

yeah, that'd be great techumseh. thanks!

Cam, I think Reis kinda abandoned HAC, as it hasn't been updated in god knows how long.

I offered to take it over for him but have gotten no response from MarkG or DanQ nor anyone else for that matter.....

So I don't really know what going on....

Anyhow, merry christmas to you both and a happy new year!

OK - only one entry so far (Odyssey) has been collected... I know there are more out there!

Please e-mail me your 'Jason and the Argonauts' entry to the Scenario League at sleague@apolyton.net - (but not any Dracula entries).

Thanks!

I have a ToT entry to submit, and I'd like to get it off of my hard drive before I lose all interest in civ2 and delete it. So where do I submit the scenario?

Hang in there M.C. We're working on setting this up, but a few hurdles remain, not the least of which is getting the FW/MGE portion judged and announced. I've just got two so far (contestants have until Jan 4 to submit) but they both look excellent. So far, I've been killed in both of them, so replays are in order. As soon as the Jan 4 deadline is past, Cam and I will make all the FW/MGE (Jason and the Argonauts) entries available for download. Frankly, these scenarios are competative with anything else out there! Stay tuned.

OK - we're providing two possibilities with the ToT (Dracula) component:

Firstly, you may create a simple website where your personal identity is hidden, and people may download your files from there - you might even want to create a more detailed webite if you wish. There is one proviso, in that you cannot amend your 'competition version' of the scenario once the due date has been reached. Edited or enhanced versions may be created, however these will not be considered for the competitions (Official and People's Choice). Geocities and Homestead are common free website hosts that people might consider - although there are a wealth of others that may offer different things.

Secondly/Alternately, I have arranged for an upload point to an independent site. If you would rather use that means, please send me an email addressed to c.hills@bigpond.com where I can tell you where to upload the files. Note: Please do not send me the files.

(I have also asked Reismark to send me details of the possible contestants for this part of the contest.)

Reminder: The FW/MPGE (Jason and the Argonauts) part of the contest closes tomorrow - please send your entries to the Scenario League at sleague@apolyton.net if you've yet to do so. The two entries we have are Odyssey and Poseidon - both high quality, but few in number!

BTW, another great free hosting site is www.angelcities.com . They give you 50mb of free space, which is great for big scenario collections.

Re. 'Dracula' contest

Despite the intention to have finally wrapped up SDC#3 by this stage, due to personal circumstances affecting the chief judge - 'techumseh' - (as wll as a request for an extension of time from one contestant), the world's longest competition is to be extended by another five weeks.

I'd be the first to admit this is regrettable, however given that the judge will be tied up for this period, it allows entrants to undertake any fine-tuning to their scenarios and hopefully lend to improvements in game quality.

No need to apologise...

techumseh ('da judge') has received four submissions for the Dracula section and is in the process of assessing them. As far as I'm aware, there is a chance that The Cradle of Civilization will host the four scenarios after techumseh has cast judgement.

Is there going to be a people's choice poll given?

------------------
"The Rumanians are really the most reliable people in the world when it comes to depending upon their breaking any promises they make." - General Harry Hill Bandholtz, US Army, 22 NOV 1919. General Bandholtz was the one who saved the Crown Jewels from the Rumanians. His statue sits in front of the American Embassy in Budapest.

After the 4 scenarios are released, I can reconfigure the poll on the Ancient Empires Web Site. That will automate the People's Choice voting, and hopefully you'll get more responses. I don't have a horse in this race, so it's bias-neutral. Alternatively, William could set up a poll on the CoC site. They're pretty easy to create .

Let me know if you're interested in the AE option.
