Given that we are pretty close to progressing to the next age, at least in theory, doesn't anyone else find it interesting how the other continent hasn't already achieved this? It's clear from the scores and from the excellent demographics analyses by people on this team that the Webringians and Netatolians possess economies significantly more advanced than our own. So why haven't they been able to move to the next age, especially if, as I recall reading elsewhere, at least one of them has a library?
A few possibilities lend themselves, all of which are good, to varying degrees:
1) They're just about to age up; they are ahead of us, but just not that far.
2) They've spent time researching the 'unnecessary' techs.
3) The civs on the other continent aren't trading amongst themselves efficiently, as we have been.
4) The civs aren't managing their economies and research progress as deftly as us.
5) Research isn't a priority for them; perhaps war, rapid expansion or exploration is consuming the lion's share of their resources.
In any case, we should take heart that despite their lead in pop, mfg and gnp, they aren't so far ahead of us as to be unbeatable.

Other than we haven't seen the corresponding barbarian uprising, how do we know they are still ancient era?
