Status in Somalia? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

.. is what? I believe it's still a big mess, people killing each other and lack of everything needed on living normally.

I have to admit in shame, that I'm a bit ignorant and not know the situation other than it's a mess. Now, I know that Aidid or what ever the hell his name was and his militia attacked UN peacekeepers who were making sure food gets to people, and not let militia block it and play their own game, in their civil war. So, I know US soldiers went in and that was a mess too, and then got out.

What happened to Aidid and his militia afterwards? Is the food getting to people now, as we speak? What kind of difficulties is the country now going through, and who is helping them? Yeah, other than UN, who is really helping them? What is the status in Somalia?

It's still the same, and there's still a need of an ass-kicking.

Is it as bad as it was before militias attacked peacekeepers? Why is this not on the news all the time?

Can someone explain and give some details what are the sides in this civil war, what are their goals, and in general how is it going?

Why are we not planning on getting back there? As far as I am concerned, I think it might be a hot spot for some al qaeda, looking at the map gives me the possibility of Somalia being the harbour country that creates axis with the ME, and from there on tries to spread it wings and force itself to other African countries where it has lots of chances of groing (poverty, wars all the time, lack of everything, fundies..).

Too bad.. But isn't it almost a reason enough that you got your boys KIA there, and it's still going on.. so it would be a good time to join the show and get it on again?

But naturally this shouldn't be Americas problem, but no one else seems to go there either.. which is a shame.
There should be like 'pass the hat' thing, that every country chips in a little money, and someone who feels like taking the prize money goes in. Something damn it.
Re-establish UNs position there, get in, seriously damage some militias and get back on the track. Might be a shithole, might be expensive, but hey I believe we could easily do it, it's just a matter of will.

Some country should take lead, it could be someone else than the US too, for a change. I'm all for Scandinavian joint operation, we are off our element in there, but US could help us, give us lots of info and what it was like, so we can prepare.. too bad it won't ever happen though. Maybe some other country? Takers? Anyone?

Actually, this could be the perfect situation for PMC to go, all we need is a contractor.. I see it as a perfect solution. Well as perfect as it can be. Is there any legit sides to this war, any that we could consider the good guys, or are they all bunch of baddies?

I believe if US troops go to Liberia, they may make a pitstop in Somalia.
I'm hoping.

Sloww, let's keep our hopes up for that one. Though it's on the other side of Africa, but I guess it's not THAT far, maybe they have some plans, I hope. UN peacekeepers are in Eritrea, which is neighbouring country to Somalia.

That's kind of funny, first Somalia is screwed, but it gets too hot, so let's try the other country.. I wonder what the civilians think of that in Somalia.
It has gone for so long, that it won't stop before someone puts an ending to it.
What are the casualties in Somalia now? I remember 300 000 before US went in, so.. well, I wonder how long we're going to look this and wait.. the world that is.

Has there been any inqueries about this lately? What is the official word on this matter? Are we just keeping it on the down low because it might be expensive and get hot?

Sloww, well that's true . Somalia is a bit closer. I'm just trying to understand the situation, and what is preventing us from going back. 'We don't care about others' is not what I'm looking for, I'm looking for real reasons and explanations.

Oh come on -- a rough and tumble Texan like you can't handle a little terrorism, slave trade, and starvation in a third world, foreign country?

I'm confident, that if there was an active campagning in the media and everywhere, to remind again what is left undone and how it is there, there would be public backing to this, and people would demand action.

The reason is that he and the greasy cocksucker Aspin decided to play cowboys and indians with TF Ranger after the jarheads from the UNITAF mission were gone, so there was no heavy support, beyond what the US 10MD elements plus Malay forces from UNISOM II could provide.

The whole thing was ill-conceived, and resulted largely from an arrogant view that a bunch of dumb khat-stoned spearchuckers couldn't possibly have a different worldview than that of the Lima Deltas on Clinton's NSC. (hint: When you shoot the **** out of a Habr Gidr clan get together, you're now at war with them, and thus don't need to worry about assuming a "provocative" posture when you later decide to send the d-boys and little birds to snatch their leader and his war cabinet. (Honest to God, that incredible, lame BS was Aspin's reason for denying heavy fire support and IFV's when TF Ranger was put together, and that decision came from Aspin.)

So let me get this straight. This Aspin guy decides that there will be no support but a light presence of US troops there. However engaging troops and definitely in need of support of many kinds. And then, when bad things happen because of it, they pull the troops out? Sounds like 2 bad choices to me. Democrats

And no support, because he thought it seemed like a war then and would push the limits? That sounds like a crazy man to me. And then retreat? They got a chance to set the record straight, and didn't took the opportunity.. I wonder what goes on in their little heads...
