	Can't locate CD ROM Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I just loaded up Civ3 on my new computer which is running Windows XP. I also installed PTW and the latest patch, but the game won't run, it just keeps telling me to insert the CD ROM. The same happens if I try to run Civ 3 without PTW. This is odd, because the computer runs other games fine, so it's not a problem with the computer, and the game runs fine on my older computer, so it can't be a problem with the CD's. Any solutions?

hi ,

uninstall , look manually for files like ptw , infogrames , civilozation , firaxis , etc , .......

delete those , reboot , reinstall , get patch , before you do this check windows update for direct - X 9 and so , ...


make sure all other programs are closed while you do this and make sure all hard and software security is off (!)

that really ought to do it

Are you using the right patch? 1.21 is the last UK patch that works. The so called "international" 1.27 patch is the US one and incompatible with the UK PTW.

Possibly not, I used the one that is currently headlining the Civ pages...1.27f or something like that. I'll try again with 1.21 - Infogrames gave me that exact advice too, so maybe it'll work

and the US patch still says " IMPORTANT NOTE: This patch is designed for the US version only and is incompatible with any European version of Civilization III: Play the World. "

Strange, I was sure it said something about it being the Euro version aswell...... oh well, my bad, hopefully that's all it was

If you reinstall both Civ3 and PTW from scratch and wants to run Civ3 vanilla you need to patch it to 1.29f in order to make it work with the copy protection (Something with the PTW installation brings parts of it to 1.29f, but not everything, and that may result in the error you are having)

On 5th August the civ3.com site claimed there was an "international" patch that worked for UK PTW. I downloaded and tried it, assuming the people who put it there knew what they were doing. There was no warning that it was the US patch and would not work with UK PTW.

Within 24 hours it came out that someone had screwed up - but I had already figured that out the hard way and had to remove and reinstall civ3 and PTW and patch to 1.21. Thanks guys!

I shan't be buying Conquests until it is clear whether there is more than one copy protection system in use. If there is I will be paying amazon.com the extra shipping charges to get a US version rather than go through this mess yet again.

well US english always gets the patches rather faster , there are no software problems with it , and there are a zillion other reasons as to get it , ......

dont worry , the UK version shall be fixed , hey it could happend to anyone , ......
