The next phase of city placements Full PM-box? Change here!

As we are going to move the 2 cities that we have gotten from CDG and we will eventually have the southern territories, we need to start thinking about city placements. One thing, I don't really want to have a 3 tile spaceing, except were the terrain won't allow it. The 3 tile spacing has been good to us, up to this point, but it can be a micromanagement nightmare and it ultimately limits the sizes of our core cities.

I have some ideas as to how I would like to see some of this placements, but as I still have a lot to do here after this move, I do not have time to play with maps and such.

I ask for some of our more industrious people to come up with some plans and post them here for consideration by the MoI and the Consuls.

I think the best plan I can think of is just kick GCA and CFC out of the game and place cities all over the continent.

Seriously though, I don't have the time to do it right now or I'd try to help.

Hum, I don't have much to say about the main contentent cites at this time, but do have ideas for the two islands:

We ought to form three cities on that biger island (grassland no shield SW of hill, grassland no shield NW & W of mountains, and grassland with shield SE of Iron) and one city on that smaller island (tundra NW of iron.)

Remember that there's no source of freshwater on any of those islands so they can't be irrigated until the Industrail age.

This will give us surplus Iron.

I propose that we found that city on the smaller island first because it's likely to contain oil.

We'll have at least two surplus iron already by that point, though... our northern one, the one in the western mountains (maybe) and the former Persian capital's.

but these islands are situated so far from our core cities...! There will be lots of waste. Have you looked on the map where they are placed? We'll atleast have to wait till we have gained some more land closer to the islands.

I think the cities on the islands should be to claim territory only and should be widely spaced.

This is a long term project, so not having time right now is not really an excuse.... seriously, we will be working on this project for over the next several months, so the only big hurry right now is were are we going to move the CDG cities? And that will even take a little time to do.

Dominae was setting up a plan to orchestrate some sort of RCP setup with a new city core established at the river bend tile 1 of the current location of Cuido. A new core located there would have 4 hills, including a gold and iron tile inside the city radius, in addition to river tiles everywhere. A true monster.

If we could work out some sort of new placement scheme with that tile being our new core (and the other Palace located somewhere to the south), then long-term we could have quite a strong economy.

So, found the cities on our landmass before going there.

You can't have too much Iron; I've almost always had an Iron resource shift in my games.

As for corruption and waste, yes they'll be loads of coruption and waste on them prior to ocean-trade allowed. (And a Harbor on each landmass plus Court House in each city.)

And based on my experence, the random map generator loves to place an oil resource on those far flinging islands full of tundra.

Looking at the new map, looks like we can probably strike the settle the islands plan. That civ in red will probably settle both before we get around to it.

Actually I don't think CFC (red) has any boats yet. Do we have any info about this? So it will be atlest a while before they will settle the islands. And CFC has other things on their mind right now than building more cities, I think!

Should wait a little while before colonizing those islands, until CFC is in hand, as they are pretty close to the CFC mainland, probably they wouldn't appreciate that. OTOH, we must plant cities there before other off-land civs do, cause they would make decent staging areas onto our continent.

RCP all the way!!!

The other day Dominae was in the chat and some of us were discussing city placements, then the topic of the FP popped up. I suggest we start planning for placement schemes based around the FP and RCP should be considered.

RCP City Placement with FP 1 from Cuido

Here's an RCP placement plan I cooked up assuming an FP-city 1 from Cuido which is the optimal RCP site since it grabs 2 pairs of cities at equal distance.

All current cities are shown with their corruption-calculated spacing. Red numbers are those for cities planned or suggested for abandonment. Green numbers are for those unique cities which have no other at the same distance. Yellow numbers are for those which have more than one city at that distance.

An alternative to put 2 cities instead of 1 SE of the FP city is to have one of them at 4 from AllYourDyes (abandoning it of course) and another at 2-1-1 from Big Bend. First city would be at distance 6.5 and the second at 3.5 meaning there's already a city at those distances. However, idealy if this were the case, AllYourGoats would have to be abandonded since it'd be too close to one of these cities.

Also note that AllYourGoats is both 8.5 distance from the FP city, as well as Catchopolis.
