	Assembly 03! Get a bigger avatar today!

Have you ever heard about this event?

It's the biggest gathering in the world, expecting 4500 visitors this year from all over the world. In the news thay said they are having people there all the way from Japan and Australia! Lots of folks from Europe, and naturally we are represented by masses there being the country that helds this event.

It's basically an event originally about competing in different categories of compos, like demos, intros, music.. you know, stuff! Now it has huge selection of different compos. I myself have attended this party 6 times, 95 to 2000.. I have missed couple of the last years due to lack of money and buddies going there. It's quite expensive, and I don't want to take my computer there anymore as most people just have one single HUGE LAN party there.
And it's quite limited space.. so.. what's the point. I'd like to see the competitions from the big screen and huge sound systems they have there and the atmosphere is great, but.. If I'm paying that money, then I want group of buddies there too. Well maybe next year, maybe we'll get a group from Uni to go there.

Have you ever been in Assembly? Maybe few of you from Europe have been? Some Finns must have been there.

I still find it funny, I was reading 'pelit' (games) magazine, and saw the add... it looked so cool and it said 'big screen' 'sound system' 'party' 'demos' and I was like I have to go here even when I don't know what this means
I was bummed for the lack of action in 95 (though it was a great event!) and realized that this is it.. this is what demos are, this is what is happening. LOUD techno music pumping everywhere, lasers, young man like me back then likes that technical stuff.

I thought well this is it, wasn't what I expected, some weird demos it was all about hmm... but I had to go next year as well.. and the next, and the next, and the next...

Agh what a long story, some nostalgia set in..

Asher, Good observation skills! ABSOLUTELYT N O T!!!!! It gets so hot there, that you're sweating like a pig. I don't know it's a bit better now.

They now hold it in a big hockey arena, the hartwall arena. It's huge. They have fast network there, so everybody can enjoy fast internet and play multiplayer games there.. and because it's a hockey arena, it has of course services like burger places and such open 24/7.
It's 4 day event! Started today (thursday) and goes 24/day until sunday .

People always try NOT to sleep and it's crazy.. there's like first aid and all, and sometimes people don't know anything because they're lost after being awake for 4 days

And of course most people bring their computers with them too.. it's a big competition who has the biggest speakers.. people always have weird gadgets with them, it's a must to have something! Fridge is a great to have, you can keep your sodas cold!

Also, there's no lights in the arena, and they get it dark, almost pitch black, and people have different kind of lights and stuff like that, it's fun .

btw, you can get the demos and all from earlier years from ftp.scene.org... port 21.

If you like demos, you HAVE to check out this wilddemo (means you film it with videocam, can be anything!)
/pub/parties/1998/assembly98/wilddemo/ and that geatreal.zip..

Check it out, it's mpg.. it's fun as hell! It's literally a demo done with a regular videocam..

a friend of mine got an epileptic attack at a similar thing in norway couple of years ago. no sleep, caffeine, alcohol and staring at a screen 24/7 may do that to you. he's ok now though.
