Civ1 tech tree Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Me and my bigger brother did some cleaning on olb papers by the computers at home, and we found this illustration of the Civ1 tech tree made by him to get a view over the technology paths.

Has the tech tree ever looked more complex?

Once upon a time... I made a civ1 tree which looks way more systematic and orderly than yours, but unfortunately it's drawn on a paper six times the size of a normal A4 paper, so I can't scan it for you.

Put an end to popups!

*grins*

That is a wonderful tech tree, Gramphos! I'm glad I never saw it before starting to play Civ, otherwise I wouldn't even have bothered! :P

That's a good one, Gramphos. But wasn't there a tech tree poster included with the game. I have forgotten now. It's...OMG...12 years ago.

Yes, there is(was). It is included on the last page of the documentation. Yes a real hardcopy manual !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You had to unfold it, though. Something like 2 A5 pages (landscape)

Yeah. I remember that manual. It was huge. I remember reading all of it before playing, and actually enjoying myself reading it.

They just don't make manuals like that anymore.

Well, I didn't make that tree, it was my brother, and my manual is stored somewhere I don't remember. And when I got the game I couldn't readf English, so it did me not mush good.

The first copy of Civ we used was in German, but nowadays I run an English copy.

Translations of these games just suck

That has to do with the crappy way you Germans sometimes mix German and English.

It's even worse when a German company translates a game to Swedish from English VIA German. Somethings can get totally ununderstandable. (And it's in those cases you want to use the English version, or be able to fix a few strings yourself).

Exactly.................

They where using 'online' translation, which will check for found....and find that this is past of to find........which isn't right in this case..........

But I think that's how they run into it..............

So it might have been the English people not even knowing their own language

Gilga?

Well, in one particular game the german translators got the Englesh sentecen 'Increase the park value to XXX' turned into the Swedish sentence "Tjäna XXX" which in english would be "Earn XXX"

And half the sentense were lost in the german translation, that is half way (don't remeber the worrdings the translation company had used for that)

It's easist to have one company do all translations, and not hire translators for each country.

There are some good translated games thou... EA are usually good at translating. (SC3000and The Sims are very good Swedish translations)
Theme Hospital are quite good, but than if you have to find swedes to speak they will probably react to strange stuff. Only one tihn that I can think of that is totally wring in them hospital, and it's the translation go "Cold" (the illness) to "Avkylning" thather than "Förkylning" (Incorrect preposition, and makes it really strange)

They aren't translated to Swedish, so I will not comment on that (as I've not tested any other translated adventure game either)

Looks like my own unfinished effort for a mod of Civ2 (Biological Evolution) which did not have a tech tree chart . Anyone know of a program for generating neat charts?

Its like one of those maze games you get on the tray with a kiddies meal at Burger King.

Ive got a Japanese version of civ2 and the tech tree inside that manual is easier to understand...
