Recently HMB has decided to get a "cuddly buddy" (sort of like a F!JCK buddy except she doesn't go all the way). From what it looks like, he still hasn't gotten over his girlfriend's death in January and he doesn't want to start dating. Last time I talked to him, he said he was never going fall in love with anybody again but instead he'd take his pleasure where he could.

That's the reason why I asked. I think maybe if he'd grown to love Pat, his girlfriend (and the girl in my avatar, incidentally) they would have had a stronger bond and he wouldn't feel so emotionally empty after she died.

ya I am one of the oldest so obviously there's a "time in the market" element

The quality versus quantity thing is something I've often thought about. But I liked variety. The exciting part for me was chasing girls, having more than one girlfriend at a time, that sort thing.

God I was a cad. I was a bad boy, a kind of angelic looking evil genius type kid if that makes sense. Girls like bad boys.

I first met my wife in my senior year of high school. We were just friends, and kept in and out of contact over the years, hooking up at one point during our college years (separate schools) for one night of non-sexual fooling around. Then friends again, then we lost touch. Her e-mail addy was sent to me (along with several others) by a friend looking to reestablish old connections. I was divorced, as was she, and she had just ended a 3-year relationship. So, when we got together for a platonic dinner, sparks kinda flew, and we started dating. More than 5 years later (and our first wedding anniversary just passed in May) we wonder why it took so long to get together, and how we could have lived without each other for so long.

So, no love-at-first-sight for us, but a very gradual strengthening of our friendship into something much, much more. And we couldn't be happier.
