Hi guys. I just wanted to let you all know that I made a major decision last night regarding the direction of my business. I'm going to be devoting a lot more time to getting it off the ground. I don't want to be an architect for the next 35 years. That mean I won't be able to devote as much time for Civ3 and 'Poly. I still intend to stick around and follow the democracy games (and give my opinions when necessary ), but I'm not going to be able to be the turnplayer when Harry is done and I might not post every day like I have been.

I may have limited time over the next couple days. The city is rebuilding the sidewalk in front of the house and managed to cut the cable for both the TV and the hi-speed internet services.

They have been notified. Writing this from work.

OK - the cable got fixed and then the great black-out hit.

Power only came on at 1:15pm edt. And they say there still may be rolling-blackouts.

Sounds like you've been having "fun" over there. I had a hunch it probably hit you like that. Makes me glad I live on the West Coast.

I will still take a black-out over an earthquake any day.

It hasn't been too bad. Traffic was weird. And for once you could star-gaze in the city. Which was good because Mars is close, and there were the remnants of a meteor shower.

Got the day off work. Stores are opening up again. We got to the grocery store early this morning.

And for the worse part of the blackout - from 4:30 pm through to 11pm on Thursday - I was in a couple of bars enjoying the beer before it got warm.

I've lived in central California all my life, and in 28 years I have NEVER felt an earthquake...even the Loma Prieta of 1989. Luck? Who knows.

Also - Poly didn't recognize the same password I have used since last November, and it gave me a new bizarre one. Any ideas?

I contacted Ming - and I did a major boo boo, apparently. I uploaded a number of pictures from my recent trip to the Rockies. I was going to use it as Vox Pictoral Announcement - and use it to describe our landing and exploration on Voxtavia - given the number of mountains there. But I guess one of the owners of the site saw what I was up to, and deleted them and have restricted what I can do. I wasn't aware that this was against the rules, but I guess it is.

So much for my creative idea. I may still do it and e-mail it around to you and the other teams.

Not sure what my status is right now. Ming is looking into it. This is the only forum I can post in. Not sure if I have been banned. Will be a first for me.

I feel for you Beta. Yes, the site owners have a rule concerining the upload feature - They have to be related to the games on this site... Of which, I guess they are actually pictures of Voxtavia and not the Rockies.

I believe that if you PM Dan and/or Ming and let them know that the pictures are for our on-going Democracy game (showing the other teams pictures of our new home of Voxtavia), they shouldn't have any problems with it. I say give it a try - I believe it will work - since it is the truth and it is related to our game...plus let them know that the pictures will only remain in your directory for a few days at most.

However, back to the subject at hand:

I agree with you Beta. Pictures of the Rockies would fit in great as pictures of Voxtavia!

Hopfully, you can convince the "powers-that-be" of the importance of these pictures in our current democracy game...after all, diplomacy is 90% of the game!

I don't know if you'll be able to, but good luck convincing them. They are all generally forgiving when it comes to most things, but there is a major crackdown on having nothing not related to the games covered on 'Poly in the upload directory. I wander the Apolyton Community forum every so often and that's one of the things Ming has been merciless about (couldn't resist ). His position is that the rules for the upload feature are posted and that anyone wishing to use the feature should know the rules first.

Sorry Beta, but I'm sure it won't be a long ban. Probably a day or so as a warning.

Ah, but the point is that the pictures in question are related to the games covered by Apolyton - Mainly this Democracy game. Because of this, I think that Beta has a shot at convincing them.

Hello folks! I'm back. It was for more than a few days. Lesson learned.

Ming says there is a way to attach things directly to a post, and vondrack explained it to me, but it still involves uploading files. So... my question is how do others do it. Sometimes cartoons are posted - or the SPDG hada thread on what do demo gamers look like - and folks uploaded pictures of themselves. So there has to be a way to do it.

Anyways, it is good to be back. Thanks for the updates Harry. The game is moving very slowly, I see.

Can you play the turns for awhile Witt. My RL is in a bit of upheavel right now.

Welcome back Beta. Sorry it took so long. Harry and Witt held down the fort while you were gone.

Most of the forums give you the ability to attach files directly without using the upload service. But there is something wrong with the hack that allows private forums that doesn't allow us to directly attach files in them. For example, when you click "post reply" in the PTWDG main forum there is a little extra box that says "attach file" and you just browse for the picture you want to attach directly from your hard drive. But that doesn't work in the private forums like Vox's.

I am back from the conference.

As for continuing to play turns, I can play them during the week but not weekends. If a turn arrives after 5:00 PM (Pacific time) on Friday until sometime Sunday evening, I will not be able to play. Anything that arrives late Sunday I can play Monday morning and during the week until Friday. This should hold through September and then we can discuss it again.

I see the next turn should be coming around soon. Let's see if it comes in time for me to play today when I get home from work. If not, I will post info for playing the turn when I get ready to leave.

Ah - Rhoth. I understand. And I now (some 8 months later) finally understand what everyone was complaining about with the private forums. I can still do the pictoral essay.

Harry - understood. Witt is probably around. I am now back on-line and reasonable up to speed as well.

If I am playing - I presume from your's and Witt's discussion and play to-date that Hope is the next priority for improvements. Makes sense.

- Though, like you where - before being tainted by this past ban - I am still and currently (so far ) ban free. So Beta, how did it feel being treated as a "redheaded stepchild"?

But most importantly - Why did they (Apolyton) throw "the book" at you for your first ever infraction? Did you explain the reasons for the uploaded pictures (ie, they are NOT the Rockies, but rather Voxtavia)?

It just seems rather harsh for someone trying to add to the flavor of the PTWDG games.
