Ok this is the second Poll of the AU beginning in this we discuss whether or not about having an AU Forum. Choices are Yes a Forum. Yes, a sub-forum No no forum. Same rules as previous thread I will add your name to the list if I can use your name when I propose this stuff to Dan and Mark.

I think most of the sub forums are private forums (like the PTWDG for example). AU won't be private, it can be accessed by anyone as a learning tool so it should be a full forum if Dan and Mark give us one in the future.

Oh, and yes you can use my name on this one and the first one.

Well if you mean something like:

CivIII - AU

that is at the level of the General thread, then I am all for that. Is that a sub forum? I want to be able to see it when I come to poly with the rest of CivIII forums.
So if that is a sub forum count me in. If not expain what you mean please.

I guess I was a bit confused about what you meant between forums and sub-forums. My definition of a sub-forum is a forum that you can only access through another forum like the private team forums of the PTWDG. A forum at the level of the general forum is what I saw as a main forum.

So to sum up....I want to see an AU forum at the same level of the general forum.

NM, maybe you can edit your first post to clarify the difference between forum and sub-forum. Thanks.

AU should have it's own forum, at the "level" of the other Civ3 forums (General, Strategy, etc.).

How do I vote for that option?

I really can't see that you would be granted a special forum anyway. The volume of AU threads in Strategy simply isn't high enough at the moment.

Besides, is there any reason it SHOULDN'T stay in the Strat forum? Why would you want new players looking for strategy tips to have to check out two different forums when they come to 'poly? I though the plan was to make things easier for newbies to learn, not harder....

I've always thought AU should remain part of Strategy overall, although it would be (potentially) nice for specific AU courses to have their own sub-fora.

Not being a regular AU person (but someone who lurkes here a bit) I would prefer it to remain a part of the main strategy forum (thus my vote).

However, if it was a sub-forum to the strat forum, I would not mind.

I do think that it shouldn't be given its own forum equal to the strat forums, or general forum, etc. (on the same line of thinking, I would merge all the demo game forums into sub forums.... but that is just how I would organize things).

I also think that it would be better to remain in the Strategy Forum. Giving it a separate forum may discourage people from getting involved, as they may not realize what AU is all about. (I certainly did not understand the intent for the first couple of months lurking here.)

This poll is also driving me to ask a newbie question: Why is banana always a potential vote? Is this an inside joke, or can it be shared with all?

the banana vote is a vote to say , i dont care , ...... do what you want , a non void count , .....

do some checking in the forums or a search , ...... there are a great deal of threads on it , .....

and you dont have to prove anything , all IP's are logged , ...

I'd like to re-iterate that your chances of getting a new forum before some tangible progress has been made on expanding AU is about zero.* AU threads have happily existed in the Strat forum for a year now without causing any problems.

If AU takes off and there are 9 or 10 active threads at a time, THEN ask for a new forum. It will be justified and you'll probably get it. To be honest, you've got more important things to concern yourself with now if you want to expand AU. Of course, this is at the discretion of the Dean and he's quite welcome to ignore me if he wishes.

* - I should make clear that I'm basing this just on experience of being here for a while and seeing many similar requests for forums turned down for this very reason. Of course, I have no influence over the decision of the admins.
