Killing Civs Increase Your PM Length

The has been much discussion of whether to kill off civs and let them become re-created in the game or whether to leave one city alive but weak so that we can kill all the civs at one time later in the game to end it. However, we have not settled this question.

Let's vote on this issue so that the polls and recommendations of the Ministers can be made with a clearcut approach to the game in mind by everyone.

True though, keeping civs alive is not what we set ourselves out to do.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I assume we actually want to "win" the game eventually. If we just keep having the civs re-create themselves, it's like an endless loop. I'd rather win this game (which may well take us about all the turns allowed) and get on to a new one with different conditions.

Though I already voted (to Kill the civs and let them be created). Cavebear points out something that I assumed to be the opposite. Perhaps wiser minds then either him or mine can answer...

I beleive that if you eliminate a civ it is replaced by another in the same colour group (i.e. The Japanese were replaced with the Zulus, and if the Zulus are destoyed they will be replaced with the Babylonians. Once all three are eliminated, regardless of the year, I don't beleive anyone replaces them. I have inferred from Cavebears post that perhaps the opposite is true (they would continue to be replaced)...I honestly am not sure which is the case.

Anyone?

Full PM-box? Change here!

They stop coming back by 1750 AD, plenty of time left to finish the job.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

AFAIK they keep respawning until:
1) there no more place to create a new country(and I thought it's the not yet uncovered land wich is taken in account, not the not-occupied land)
2) a certain year(1750AD?)

so it's not even certain they will respawn if we kill them now.

So if we were to destroy the Zulus, and then their replacement the Babylonians...you think we might get the Japanese back? I did not know this, but still think we should destroy all we come across.

My only understanding of the "respawning" abilities of destroyed civs is based on what I have understood from discussion here. In my own games, I do not allow it as a matter of choice, so I don't know much about the possibilities and conditions personally.

If there is a time or condition where such nonsense ends, then it is fine with me if we just kill off the civs until their well runs dry! If we must kill off the Romans and face a Russian civ in it's place, fine. We are capable of doing whatever it takes to defeat all enemies.

Let the slaughter continue!

We shall prevail, we shall conquer, we shall wipe civs from our promised territory, we shall defeat any and all who are thrown at us, we shall destroy again the abject progeny of the civs previously overthrown!

As far as I know, the way it works is when the next two civs besides the original of the same color are killed off, they stop respawning.

Not that I wish to correct Citizen Atawa , but as the Americans wiped out the Indians quite some time ago and the Purple has not yet not respawned it seems unlikely that we will get to face the Mongols or the Sioux and as a result all we will get to eliminate is 15 civs at most. (Still sounds good to me though ) Bring on the Russians and Celts, the French and the Vikings (assuming we find the Germans ), the Babylonians, the English and the Cartheginians, the Chinese and the Persians... and the Apolyton Imperium will destroy them all in good time

Seems strange to me that we didnt get Mongols or Sioux.
One would think that on a map this size there would be an empty spot to respawn

Perhaps when the AI kills a civ, it stays dead?

Why are non-custom avatars showing?

Anyway, I vote late again since I finally got a chance to visit my girlfriend this weeked.

I say keep the AI in zoos.

Why waste resources hunting down respawned civs?

Sparrowhawk:

It is possible for the same civ to respawn twice, even after the entire colour group has been exhausted. It is also possible for the entire group, even if there are other civs available, to not respawn when crushed. I have no idea as to the algorithm deciding whether a civ will respawn or not.

Oh bugger - my vote wouldn;t have counted for anything anyways. If we are going to kill civs, let's do it right and ensure there are no more cities around!

BTW it might be a good idea to check the find city option and see if we can locate at least ONE Roman city.

I thought the find and goto options only worked when the enemy city has a wonder in it?

Going back to a save I have from when I was FAM, in the Find City option I see Athens, Berlin, New York, Pharsalos - all cities we cannot see otherwise. All of these have wonders, so you may well be right there atawa. I always thought capitals showed up too, but I'm likely wrong.
