Sending out the "none" or not? Tired of ads?

You're exploring with a none unit, you pop a hut and get another unit with the same movement point as the exploring unit (i.e. a one movement unit, say an archer, pops another archer). You're close enough to your own empire so that the hut unit gets supported from one of your cities, which bothers you (we're despots and the city supports more units than it has population).

If you want to send one of the units back, which one do you choose? If you send back the supported unit you might be able to rearrange support, but you run the risk of losing the none unit in the field.

If you send back the none unit, you have a support-free unit and you can use the unit in the field to check if it is close to other empires' cities (considered a cheat by some). But then you don't solve the support problem.

What do you do?

Carolus

Increase Your PM Length

I'd probably disband the supported unit. If it wasn't too far from one of my cities I would consider marching it back and disbanding within the city.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

As always, depends on the situation. If I'm in Republic, or thinking of going to republic soon... I will march the attached unit to the nearest city and do whatever I want with it. The non unit can continue exploring without any happiness problems.

If I'm like you, and in despot or am in Monarchy, and intend to be in such for a while... I would send the non unit home... since it is more valuable, and you will probably lose the attached/wandering unit later anyway. As stated, it can be used to determine closeness to enemy cities, and losing it sooner or later won't be much of a loss, because you then won't have to support it.

Got spare money?

I agree with both of them. If bringing the supported unit back to disband will help rush a settler (only in despotism), I'll do it. In monarchy, all it's going to save is one turn.

Otherwise the non unit will head home and the attached unit will go out and discover and eventually be lost.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

In nearly all cases, I would keep exploring with both, it is usually possible to move units back in the cities and rehome to get rid of support problems
