What do we do with our Regular Warriors? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Trip wants to send them to the front line. He calls them "scouts." I say they are "bait." Some may call them "expendable scouts" at that point.

I say they can serve a better purpose other than a quick death.

I would rather keep a few at home in case we need to upgrade a few to a MI's in a pinch. We could even use them (the MI's) for Barb hunting (and hope for promotions) instead of using our NM's. MI's have a much better chance at defeating a Barb when attacking; which is what we will be doing mostly. I guarantee that if we use them for Barb hunting, they wont stay Regular's for long.

Besides, a Regular MI is not that a bad of a thing; it will cost us 80 gold to upgrade to the MI. 80 is not all that much considering we are making over 30 gpt now and will be making gobs more in a GA. We already decided to go the 40 turn route to Engineering, so we will have plenty of gold for the foreseable future.

I would rather see our Warriors upgraded than sent to die an almost meaningless death against GCA units. Heck, with GCA's luck, we may help them attain a few GL's if we let them attack Regular Warrior's!

How many do we have ?

Dont throw them away.
If we need a scout .. sure use one.
Upgrade 1 or 2 for barb hunting.
And the rest...keep in reserve, and upgrade if needed.

80 gold may not be much in comparison with our gpt rate, but we will be using EVERYTHING in our GA for the plans of Markets, Temples, Libraries etc that we need to keep our momentum up after the GA and incremental buying of units to keep build times down a turn. One or at extreme most two reg MIs would be fine to upgrade, otherwise one should go on the Galley ready to suicide, and any others should be kept at home ready for upgrading to replace any MIs that become vets fighting barbs when they are sent to the front.

I would like to hear how much use Trip things they can be as scouts - Horses would be far better in most cases, where there are roads or open spaces. The only places that wariors would work better are in jungle, forest or the hills. As we get into GCA proper we see less and less of this sort of terrain.

We'll also need to keep an eye on our back door - for Barbarians at least.

Or Possibly the GCA Sword Army. It would be just like them to bring that Army from CFC towards our back door.

Keep most of them around for future use. If we don't need them in the future we can disband them at the cost of a few gpt over the intervening turns. But if we use them up early in the war as bait and then realize we need them for some quick MI's we'll be kicking ourselves.

A reserve is a good thing to have! Why waste it?

I'd also say we should keep most of them around as a ready to upgrade reserve force in case of catastrophe on the front lines or unexpected visitors behind the front lines.

I say disband them, they are too expensive (1gpt). Or at least send them barb hunting.
They are no use in the war (other than upgrading GCA's units - which is BAD)

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

If things go badly for us, they may be the only thing that will keep us from suffering CDG's fate. There are plenty of ways to get them up to full Vet status, and we have been using them for a lot of other units. We just havne't had the barbs poping up as much as the Conculs had first conjectured (which I had know was way too optomistic at that time). But with us expanding and haveing a larger area to roam, we won't have that problem in the future.

Look at this example.

We've just captured Elucidium, AGA and AGB are still split up. We're ready to move on Goatcity, but we want to see what's ahead of us. We send forward a regular Warrior and we see 14 vet GCA Swords there. This tells us that we need to combine AGA and AGB or else we'll take heavy casualties for AGA. If we send a Horse forward into enemy territory, then it's dead and we lose 30 vet shields. If we send a regular Warrior we lose 10 regular shields. In the process we find out where GCA's main army is, and we don't have to risk our own units. If the Warrior doesn't see anything, then AGA can move forward on top of the tile and the Warrior isn't lost.

Knowing where the enemy army is is much more valuable than a regular 10 shield unit.

Once we get our GA we'll be producing 3 units per turn. A single regular MI is hardly a drop in the bucket.

By the time we have 80 gold to spend on upgrading for hunting barbs, the war with GCA will be well under way - we need gold first for upgrading, short rushing and investigations... that's all very expensive and 80 gold is a pretty large sum right now. When the time comes around when we will be able to spend 80 gold on something like that, we'll have enough units to cover our entire territory 5 times over.

I agree

btw, anyone seriously think GCA has proven itself dumb enough to go after "bait" of single lone warriors? I'm sure what BF had in mind wasn't really "bait" but rather expendable scouts... oh well, just words.

They woud go after it with an elite unit to try for a GL!

Can't a horsemen, in GCA territory, move two spaces? Move ahead one to check stuff out, the move the AG's according to the intel gathered. There are very few tiles in GCA territory that woud require us to send scouts onto hills or mountains. We built Warriors with the idea in mind to upgrade them. Yes, one unit may not seem much to you, but we have 3-4 Regular Warriors we can upgrade in a pinch. A Regular MI works wonders against a Vet Spear or a Vet Sword, even fortified ones!

A Regular MI wins 53.8% of the time against a fortified Veteran Spear or Sword. How is that waste?

I want those units left at home; WB is going off for the (possible)suicide mission with PoA. Alva, BFW, BF and WWNN are the other Regular Warriors. When we can afford it, I want two of them upgraded and one place in the North, and one in the South for Barb hunting duties. Once we have completely withdrawn our units form the North (we have in the South) we should get some more Barb camps. Especially after Hack takes care of the one he's next to this next turn.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Warriors alone on the plains will be meat for horse that we will never be able to counter-attack, because they will be long gone.

1 or 2 warriors used in advance of the army groups could be good. More? I don't know.

BTW, we now lack our screen, and GCA units could advance undetected on Bigbend. I suggest moving that reg warrior from AGA to reestablish a full screen to the coast.

BF has a point about being meat for GCA GL's.

Exposing weak units to an opponent with elites is not necessarily the smartest plan ever devised.

btw, they do have elite horse. Worst of both worlds. Dead warriors with no enemy to kill for it, and give them easy shots at GLs.

We will need units to suppress resisters in captured cities. Maybe we can use the warriors for that purpose ..?
