Historical Log of Major Events - Should I do it ? Tired of ads?

I am thinking of starting on a new project - to keep a historical log of the major events happening in the ISDG game, since Turn #1. It won't be like F_P's thread for new comers, but basically a one line log, kept in a spreadsheet that allows for easy data filtering. Your can see a sample (the spreadsheet, and the filtering for internal events) at the bottom of the page.

The objective is i. to keep a good record of what's happening. There are many more turns to come, by turn 200, it's going to be difficuilt to recall what happen on Turn 35. ii. to allow anybody to do a search/filter the spreadsheet for information and iii. to allow any future historian/writer who has good command of English, to write a good account of the history of Apolyton.

Does this make any sense to you ? To be perfectly honest, I am not very sure myself.

It's also very important to consider what to include/exclude. It should not contain every tiny information. It should not include data that is already well kept, eg E_T has an excellant chart on City building, and I am sure Trip would have the same for his military units.

What I think should be included is :
1. City founded
2. Changes in Councel/Minister
3. First Contacts with other civilisation, Declaration of War, Agreement signed
4. Technology found, exchanged, pop
5, Misc but interesting infor - like first Warrior, first settler, first frigate, huts popped

What I wasn't so sure would be :
6. Military Units/non-military units built - i really don't think so
7. City improvement - maybe, maybe not
8. Casualty
9. Population growth
10. Culture expansion

What do you think ?

Sounds great and looks impressive, rush. This would be the exact sort of thing that would help if focussed on our OPPONENTS as well.

Some of the info (eg tech acquisition and trading) can be found in the Area X thread if that is helpful to you. If you would like any help from those of us who can look at past saves ( I have every one since I became a Consul), just ask us.

Oh, and that means yes I think it is an idea well worth pursuing!

Great idea.

Some additional ideas:

  • Add "special" buils (FP, wonders, ...).
  • Give each event type its own colour.

Very good idea Rush. I would include casualties; sort of like a memorial. Also maybe info about the other Civs that we don't know about; like their possible destruction (noting the scores).

Thanks for all the postive feedback as I say, i wasn't too sure myself. But if anybody is against it, please let me know too. I am open to different view and criticism. You can PM me if you want.

Anyway, while I was trying to get some sleep last night, I think about the value of doing this, and if there is anything else I should do that could possibly be more valuable. One thing i can think of, which i think is not done yet, at least in this forum, is to create a directory. This would probably be similar to what Kloreep has done in DG and Mountain Sage in the Strategy Forum. But what i think should be done here, however is a historical log (like what i proposed in the 1st post) plus a link to the relevant discussion threads.

What do you think ? If I am just doing the historical log, I should finish it by this weekend. If I am doing the historical log c-u-m directory link, it could be much longer, maybe around 3rd week of Sep, taking into account of RL work commitment and business trips.

Edit : fixed one word. c-u-m was sen sored.

Well for starters we've lost a few units to barbs. It would be nice to make accurate casualty lists turn-by-turn during the war.

Great job Rush
