So it tastes like crap, right? We have drinkable, good quality water cheaply and easily accessible just about everywhere. We have adequate quality water delivered pretty much everywhere, that's safe for normal use, and probably safe for drinking. In southern California, MWD has spent around a billion dollars on primary filtration and treatment of water, and all they do is act as a wholesaler between the state water project and their utility contractors. Bottled water is a racket in the US, costing 5-10 times what it costs down here, so a lot of people in the US drink tapwater because they can't afford a healthier and better tasting alternative.

That's not the case here, so why should anyone spend hundreds of millions of dollars giving additional levels of treatment to a product for a purpose people don't really want to use it for, anyway? I wouldn't care how much they treated the piped in water, it'd still be calcium-laden, and pick up a lot of that yummy copper taste from the pipes it was happily corroding (always a problem in hard water areas).

The term gringo is pretty much exclusively for Americans. One theory I heard to its origin comes from the invasion of Mexico in 1845 that the US troops were seeing "Green Grow the Lilacs". The Mexicans, not knowing what the words meant, started calling the Americans gringos (green-gos).

Pinche gringos is usally reserved for Americans.

Turista is tourist, but diarrhea isn't that far off. Most of the two-legged turistas are about as annoying.

Well, GePap, the word "turista" is pronounced differently in northeastern Brazil than it is in Rio de janeiro... I would certainly expect it to be pronounced differently in Spanish.
