To The Core Suffering from ads?

Our Core cities comprise of the following: (in order of Rank)

Apolyton
Incensity
Mingapulco
BigFurryCity
Bananatopia
Hispanica
LuxInvidica

These comprise 1/2 of our current cities.

This thread will be used to discuss the issues and plans for these cities, as we go through to the end of our GA.

All of these cities are limited to size 6, except for Bananatopia, which is on a river.

Apolyton Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

As of turn 109, we have the following built in Apolyton:
Granary
Barracks
and the Palace

We have 5 pop that will grow to 6 in 2 turns, requiring the need of using a specialist.

We will be presently using this city for the war effort, but we will soon need to build a temple and marketplace, hopefully before the end of the GA.

This city is also a good canidate for a settler, to be used for the war effort. We will have the settler built and then add a worker to bring the city back up to size 5.

Incensity Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

On turn 109, Incensity is currently at size 4, with no growth. The plan is to bring the city to size 5 using a worker. This will get us to 15 SPT for the GA.

The city has a barracks

We can build 2 MI's before the war, and then will concentrate on 30su during the GA. We might also have a galley built here, just before the war, to explore the north point, if we lose the Expedition.

We should build Horsemen in this city, during the GA and then during the last of the GA, build a marketplace.

Things at the point of turn 108 Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

At this point in time, we are about 9 to 10 turns away from going to war. The MoI is assuming, for reasons of planning, that our GA will start on turn 118 and finish on turn 137. At this point, all MoI plans will extend to turn 140.

Actually we will get to size 6 fine in Apolyton, but it (and Bananatopia) is the only one that can do so.

Yes, I had noticed this, when I had moved the WF around to use the coastal tile. I wasn't sure if there would be sufficient amount of RAW trade at size 6 to bring us up enough without having to use the coastal tile.

Also, please do remember, that we ARE in a Republic and will be starting this war, so we will have the effects from war weiriness, every 5 turns that we are at war, so don't count on having the extra worker working throughout the entire GA/war.

I just ran the number on Lux again. If we mine that shielded tile right away AND find another Shileded tile nearby nad mine it, we can switch production now and have a Granery built BEFORE it grows from 3 to 4 without having to rush buy it. Else, we have to spend a measly 20-30 gold on rushing it before it grows. To me, that is certainly worth it.

It would allow us to take the burden off Banana and Apolyton to do all of our setter chores, plus it could routinely pump out workers.

If ther are no objections from the other Consuls, I would like to get ET to back this plan and implement it on the next turn.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

What happens if we don't find another shielded tile in time? What are the costs then? This seems like a bit of a gamble that could end up wasting the time of a city during a war and Golden Age or dumping a lot of extra money.

I'm sorry I'm not a Counsel, but I think I have an objection. Last I checked, they're not the only ones that matter here.

I said it would cost 20-30 gold IF we didn't find another shielded tile under the tile that is being cleared now. Else, it costs us nothing and it gets done before we grow from 3 to 4 in Lux. Even if we dont get an extra shieled tile; it's well worth the cost to me. Food is as good as gold and shileds. Growth is the real secret to winning this game.

And you are right, everyones opinon's matter. But we will not poll every single item in this game. It simply cannot be done that way. If anyone feels strongly about soemthing, there are more than welcome to start a discussion on it followed by a poll.

I agree that expecting a Bonus Grassland to appear under Jungle within a particulear city's radius is not a very wise move. I count myself lucky (get it!?) to get a Bonus Grassland from Forest or Jungle; I never count on it.

Are we talking about switching from War Production (currently Cat) Immediately to a Granary?

I do have plans to get that time Mined, in 1 turns time, by the Mining crew of MrWIA, EVC and Dejon, but in a few more turn. It seems that delaying the tile clearing in Banana and then Tripoli is not really an option at this point in time.

We can still look at getting that Granary built, but we should be completing that Cat first, and maybe just 1 worker. I would like to make sure that we can take GCA with out any problem, and that one cat (in combonation with all of the others) will make sure of that.

I'd rather get the Granery in now ET. If one Cat makes a difference in our war with GCA, then we are in deep doodoo!

You know as well as I do that a Granery is most effective when it can build the most settlers and workers in a given time period. IMO, that advantage is far greater than any one Cat could bring us.

Granaries do build your economy, and your economy is certainly an important part of fighting a war.

Cats can be excellent tools, but given our current plan I don't think it would be the best use of our resources. Cats are best in slow and defensive wars; this will hopefully be a fast and offensive war.

The possibility that scorched earth strategies will be used in the upcoming war could make an additional granary very useful in the rebuilding process.

Cats move as fast as our MIs, and we are through the jungle.

A few cats (maybe 4 or 6) will result in us losing fewer MIs and Mercs.

Cats are still slower though, since to use them you have to bombard which uses their turn up and they end up 1 turn behind everyone else for each time they attack.

They are no slower than the MI's that win but are unable to advance because of their stack.

If we used cats in offensive scenarios then the stack would be indeed held up for one turn in order to re-integrate them back into the AG's.

If they are used as only counter measures to GCA's attacks agianst our stacks, then they will not slow us down. I can see sending 4 Cats along for this war; however, 1 Cat is not more valuable than a Granery 10 turns sooner.

Yes, but multiple Cats can be used against a single opponent, which might be immediately killed thereafter. Thus 4 Catapults have shot, and 1 unit is one tile forward while the rest are 2-3.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

On offense, Cats complement an already sufficient force nicely, by reducing the need to heal units and by allowing cities to be captured with fewer direct battles. But, it is important that there already be a sufficient number of units to work with in the first place; Cats do not replace Medieval Infantry, especially if only around 5 of them are being used in total. If there were plans to build a whole bunch of Cats then that's another story, but only 5 is not worth it, IMO.

I have a feeling, that when we go to attempt to take Catchopolis, that it will be a very bloody battle. To that, even a few cats can shift the odds sufficiently, to insure our voctory.

Even as a defencive role, the have the ablity to make a likely loss of one of our units, to a possibility of them loosing a unit.

PLUS, IF they ARE replaying and working out the best moves for their Offenses, then that one additional RNG that is used by the cat (while in defencive mode), can really muck that up for them.
