Willie Gault was the fastest man in the NFL, IIRC. Great breakaway speed.

Does the name Gayle Sayers ring a bell? Or does he count?

Also, I think Dan Hampton and Gary Fencik were terrific.

The Bears showed more tonight than any of their other preseason games... and all I can say is... It's going to be a long year... sigh...

What are YOU smoking??? Running back and MLB are the two positions where the Bears have a great history. Red Grange, Willie Gallimore (tragic early death), Sayers, Payton... The past ten years of NOT having a killer RB are by far the exception.

No one ever claimed McMahon was a great passer. He was, however, the epitome of what a great QB is -- a LEADER and a WINNER. His poor health was difference between the late-80s Bears being a potential dynasty and just another decent playoff team.

Sure, a gun for an arm and 4.3 speed are nice. But if that's what made a QB, then Jeff George, Dan Pastorini, and Fran Tarkenton would be your all-time best (and would have won something). Namath was barely a 50% passer, Montana was not physically gifted. But they knew how to WIN.

Personally, I think Parcells is counting on it. His quote when anointing Quincy the starting QB was that he "gives us the best chance to win now."

I have to agree with Imran on this one (oh my god)...

Fran Tarkenton was one of the all time best... just never won the big one. To even mention his name in the same sentence with the likes of Jeff George is just silly.
