books related to your scenarios? Enter the AD-FREE zone

I'll quote from this thread http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum23/HTML/008890.html

quote:

I was thinking of history or scifi books that related to a specific gaming scenario, with perhaps a single title per scenario. LotR is an easy example. Gwyn Jones' History of the Vikings would match up with Harlan's Viking scenario, and 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea for the Jules Verne epic; etc

so, suggestions??

The 2nd chapter of Kennedy's _The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers_ is named "The Habsburg Bid for Mastery." And my favorite book by Peter Hopkirk is _The Great Game_.

Put an end to popups!

From "the Never ending story" by Michael Ende I used the name Phantasia for the first german version of my scenario "The Fall of the Kraeikian Empire". Although that's about where the similarities end. But at least it gave my the idea and motivation to start making a scenario in the first place.

Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and Sword of Shannara are obvious.
"2194 Days of War" is the title of a WWII reference book by Cesare Salmaggi and Alfredo Pallavisini, which I used extensively to create the scenario of the same name.

"Dareios I. König der Perser" responsible for versions 1.0 and 2.0/1 of my scenario "Quest for Asia: Darius the Great". It was written by Peter Julius Junge during the excavations at Persepolis during the 30s but published only in 1944. It's written in a bit heroic tone, but it's a great biography.

"Alexander der Grosse" by Hans-Joachim Gherke is another one of my favorites. I believe you can guess what this one's about.

Follow the masses!
30,000 lemmings can't be wrong.

We who grew up tall and proud
In the shadow of the mushroom cloud
Convinced our voices can't be heard
We just want to scream it louder and louder:
"What the hell are we fighting for?"
"Just surrender and it won't hurt at all"

Michael Daumen - I just finished Hopkirk's The Great Game, it was tremendous. Looking forward to Like Hidden Fire Now I can't wait to play your scenario! (Perhaps they should list a link to the CSC in the book?? )

Paul Kennedy's book is a great general civ "powergraph" if you will. I hadn't thought about referencing specific chapters - excellent!

Full PM-box? Change here!

Instead of a book, how about a game or two?

I got my inspiration for my Wing Commander scenario by the five games of the same name. (WC I-V, Prophecy being #5)

My Russian Front scenario was inspired by Microsoft Close Combat III: The Russian Front

Increase Your PM Length

What about the Osprey series of books? They have good historical background and color plates of units for all of the major conflicts of recorded history.
