Odin: No, they are different people. Albanians are decended from ancient Ilyrians where as Serbs are Slavs. These are totally different ethnic and religious groups. Prior to the Turkish invasion most Albanians were Catholic (some still are) but Serbs were Orthoxed.
You are thinking about the Croats, Slovenes, Serbs, and Macedonians who are all basically one ethnic group with slightly different regional histories. Albanians are a totally different group and the Albanian language forms it's own group with in the Indo-European family where as Serbo-Croation is part of the Balto-Slavonic subgroup.
Ned: He was but now the vast majority of them want to cease their affiliation with Serbia. It's a dumb idea but it's going to be hard to stop the will of the people.

Ecthelion, not bad! I have a buddy who also served in Kosovo. But he was mostly on guard duty and patrols, and had a low rank so he made.. I'm pulling this out of my hat so not facts but something like 1800 euros per month, served a full year, but also had the daily pocket money what was like what.. 30 bucks? something like that, and that was tax free. So he made it with the pocket money easily, and the monthly salary was all saved and he had the opportunity of getting a tax free car from Germany and bring it home, it's a big thing since we have horrible taxing on cars. So, aftermath would be a car worth of (worth here) 30 000 + working experience (we hold UN missions and peacekeeping high in here and appreciate it) plus good time. I'd say it was a pretty good deal. Though I often bash UN, I don't bash the guys there.. can be one tough job, and they usually good guys too.

Oerdin, I know. My buddy was there, like I just posted  .
I'm not very interested though. Even if I was, I think I wouldn't make it, we have volunteers many times over, because those are our only chances to do some soldiering outside own army here. You have to be a regular Joe to get in with no markings anywhere, and I have that misdemanour when I got caught smoking the pot in my teens . So no chance for me right there.
Kind of funny though, I was told that it don't matter when I was thinkign about going to cadet school, so I would have been a ltn in 3 years and captain in 10 years, but I can't do any guarding as sgt because of that. Well that thing doesn't show anymore and I don't have record, but I don't feel like lying about it as I want to go with clean table when I start something and not live in something on my mind.
Also they want people with special working experience and they are careful about sending younger ones. For reasons that they don't have much life experience and can be jumpy or what ever. So they want middle aged beer bellied wifebeaters mostly. And these days, the only young people they let go is rapid deployment force kids, and it didn't exist when I was in the army, so my chances are slim to none. That's ok, their lost.

So no I wouldn't be chosed for the job, they want models there because everything else would be bad PR for them, and we have small group of guys there, so I blew my chances when I was 16. We are a country where little misdirection taken as a young boy is not forgiven, ever. Their crap policies extends its dirty arm to everywhere here too. It doesn't matter that I did full service with excellent discharge. It doesn't matter, that I'd qualify their physical test with excellent results according to their limits (which are a joke anyway). It doesn't matter. That's the way it goes and there's nothing I can do about it now. I was stupid, but I think I'd deserve a shot there after being top at my peers in service, and had many jobs there with much responsibilities. But according to their logic, I can not be trusted. I hope they get their faces bashed in by some baddies, and they can cry for help, I won't come though, because I can't be trusted. ****ers make me angry!
I'm as far as you could get from dirty hippies and drug addicts. But I won't blame others, it was me who did it and I ain't denying it!
and I might not be the best candidate there, but not getting a shot for the job, I think that's unfair.. I can't prove myself to these office 'officers'. I'd prolly be the only one there without alcohol problem anyway. No one cares about what kind of person I am, since there's the magic word that makes me the least person they want.
Let them have their jobs, ****ing pussies that's what the most of them are (that makes these rules). That's ok. Most of them have done the same thing anyway, but they didn't get caught, that's the difference. So that makes them people that can be trusted. That's ok though. You can test me 2 times a week if you don't trust me. Put needles in me and take blood, make me piss on a cup. I'll do it if that's what you want. I'll do your psychological tests and speak to therapist, if that's what you really want. But if you can't trust me because of this, it's not really my problem anymore, it's YOUR problem.

Kind of hard to deny when they catch you red handed.. joint still in your mouth. Oh I ran.. yes I did.. unfortunately to the nearest dead end, so my escape was about 15 meters long. And to be honest, I'm kind of happy I was caught. It taught me a valuable lesson.
And that lesson is that if you don't respect the rules and the laws, you'll get punished for it, even if you don't like it. There are consequences, and if you screw things up, you don't always walk out of it clean. Back then, I hated cops and society and what not. I learned to respect. I don't agree that I still should be punished for it, I've paid my dues in my book already. It taught me to think first, and not get myself into situation where I can't get out ever again.
