Anyone else seen the Return of the King preview? Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

You can get it on the Two Towers DVD or by other....

Well, I thought it looks pretty good. There is a fantastic sequence of a Fell Beast smashing into a catapult on the walls of Minas Tirith and the battle of the Pelennor Fields looks mind blowing.

What did you think?

I saw it. Omfg... incredible.

You have the DVD, I assume, so you heard the part about how Helm's Deep had ~ 10,000 orcs, whereas Pelennor Fields will have 200,000.

No - I don't have a DVD player. When I was in the UK a friend bought it and we watched the preview six times in a row.

Can't wait.

PS. Anyone who doesn't like LOTR is a ****er.

The movies suck because there's no actual violence in them. No blood == no violence.

Well, they are very good movies..do they need any more fuss than that? If you appriciate good film making, that is enough reason.

The preview version on the TTT DVD is longer and includes some interview clips.

It does indeed look really rather amazing. It'll be interesting to see how the post-Mt.Doom scenes are handled.

I just watched the two towers and I was dissappointed with the (unnecessary) changes, and how poorly Frodo is portrayed. I'll certainly see the Return of the King and buy all the platinum DVD, but I'm a little concerned.

I actually thought like you did on the subject of LOTR. There were numerous threads about it when the first movie came out and I really couldn't see what the fuss was about. A friend of mine dragged me out to see the fellowship at the movies and I was really impressed by it. When the second one came out, I in turn, took some friends out to see who really were not into the whole fantasy type stuff but they all really enjoyed the movie. (i showed them the first at home) I want to actually read the books but figured I would wait until after I see the Return of the King. I havent read anything in to it so I honestly don't know how it will turn out. I figure I will end up liking the books far better than the movies simply because the books will probably be able to go into much more detail. Somehow, LOTR has managed to totally miss all the bad things that happend to the the Star Wars saga. I'm sure the die hard fans of the book series have issues with the movies, but I came into them a LOTR virgin so to speak. I just know that when I come out of their movies, I dont feel disappointed. When I read the books, I'm sure I won't either..

I enjoyed both movies of this three part series so far, and Tolkein was definitely a great author that set the stage for future fantasy authors.

However, by now, the types of races and cultures that Tolkein created are cliche -- if you use them, or create groups that so similar to those of Tolkein's creation, you're really going to be seen as an unoriginal, cliched author.

yep, I D/L'd the trailer by 'mistake' trying to get the ROTK trailer, it was too short and 'choppy' to form any sort of opinion. has anyone seen the trailer for the Silmarrillion yet, due out 2008?

I like D&D stuff (I'm a hardcore RPG fan), but for some reason I didn't like the movies as much as expected. They were good movies though.

But I felt like they were missing something. I would have preferred they be rated R and actually show some blood. Decapitations with no blood? WTF!

I still haven't seen the two towers yet. I'll rent it next week I suppose.

I never really liked fantasy movies that much. I do like the Conan movies, but not that much. Other fantasy movies just haven't peaked my interest as much as action, comedy, or sci-fi movies.

The Hobbit trailer is an obvious fake. It just mixes footage of LotR with that of older films for a good effect.

No movie can re-create every element of a book, but there are needless changes in the two towers that dont improve the story. They appear to be merely change for change sake (or perhaps poor editing- I'll know when I see the platinum version).
