Thanks for the very detailed and helpful analysis, BF! Is there going to be a new poll set up soon on what turn we should begin the war (as opposed to how many turns from 'now')?

But I am sure the RNG Godz will be with us |
I've taken a long, close look at the Vox conflict and things are quite different for us now. We're in a much better position than Vox could ever hope for.
First, we're not Badvancing into an industrial superior nation, or one with the potential to be greater than us for a very long time. Plus we have our GA coming and they don't. Vox's industry was ouclassed by GS' more than ours will be beyond GCA's.
Second, we have a map of all of GCA, can can plan which cities we want to attack and when. Vox went into its war without a map of the terrain they'd be driving into.
Third, Vox gave GS a few turns warning of their invasion due to their killing of Grog. GCA has no Grog. Instead, they have 4 front-line units which will be killed on the first turn of our invasion.
Fourth, we're not splitting the direction of our advance. Vox wanted to head down the Spinebreakers and attack Arashi and Tempest, with another stack heading down the coast for Hurricane. While we will have seperate Army Groups in the invasion, they're all moving along the same axis and they'll be working together to achieve a common goal.
Fifth, the terrain is mostly in our favor. Aside from a few hills everything is on flat land, which is good for the attacker. There are very few mountains (much to the contrary of Vox, which got stuck after GS placed Pikes in their only path south) and the few there are aren't placed anywhere significant. The only mountain which could affect anything is the one next to Catchopolis, but that's a single mountain and on the opposite side of the invasion route.
Sixth and finally, we have a definitive plan of what we need to accomplish (destroy units at any cost). Vox headed south, got stuck, then had to reassess what they wanted to do. Having things change so drastically is a very bad thing to have happen to a plan in progress. You need a firm goal and a decisive plan to achieve that.
So as you can clearly see, I'm not too worried about this invasion becoming a repeat of Vox.

Y'know, some folks here aren't involved in the PTWDG.... and we're getting a wee bit tired of constantly hearing about it. This is a different game, with vastly larger and more careful teams. Could we leave the DGs separate please? |
::sigh::
if you're tired of hearing about the PTWDG, then JOIN IT!.
For those who don't know, the PTWDG was initially set up to be as a practice for the ISDG. Many of the things that happened or are happening are case studies which many of us use for analogies when thiking or talking about this game. And for good reason, the PTWDG has given us the experience to run this team much more efficiently.
And yes, I do believe that we are a much better team here in the ISDG thanks to the experience of the PTWDG. Sure, things will never be "exactly" the same, but still, there are many things to note and learn from.
Same with history. Some people have told me that making historical analogies is worthless. I don't think so, these games show a very large resemblance to historical events and knowing these can also shed a little insight to this game.
