	Oops! I left my civgroup! Remove this text

A lot of people, myself included, have experienced the frustration in accidentally clicking on 'Leave' near the civgroups links, by either going for the 'Private Forum' link and missing or just clicking by accident.
This has happened to members of the PTWDG teams and the Apolyton ISDG team.
This becomes a problem when you are a member of a restricted group (such as the two abovementioned groups) and need to be reauthorized back (pressing 'Join' is not sufficient to rejoin the group and enter its private forum and such). This means that due to a silly accident you can't enter your team's private forum until the civgroup leader reauthorizes you, and this must also be a hassle for the civgroup leaders (Beta can tell you how many requests per week he gets from people who have accidentally left the ISDG).

A simple solution would be to insert a confirmation page before leaving a civgroup. Currently you just have to press a small link to leave, but the problem would be solved if after you pressed the 'Leave' link, you would be asked to confirm your choice by pressing some big, red, shiny, candy-like button (such as the one that erases history from that episode of Ren & Stimpy... uhh, nevermind).

I agree, it is funny. I had my good share of laugh out of this problem.

The thing is, it's funny the first time, and it's funny the second time, but the third time it gets annoying...
And I know for a fact that I'm not the only idiot that did this three times.

I haven't seen you posting much on the GS private forum lately... don't tell me you've accidentally left too!

At home, I use the links bar in Opera for most of the forums that I keep track of and it's very handy, but at work I usually enter the private forum through the links at the top of the PTWDG public forum page. Which is usually when I press leave...

i havn't left my team, but when trying to access a private forum, i have many times left the ACDG civgroup, though totally irrelevant as it is nowadays

Panag, Thanks for your words of unique wisdom and advice that I couldn't have ever thought of myself ( ), but I already tried that a while ago and they didn't get back to me.
I was hoping that a mod checks this forum from time to time (Ming for instance?) and would bring this up to the current site admin (DanQ?).

You're in luck Shiber. Both DanQ and Ming check this forum, so you could receive an answer. If you don't it's probably because it's been asked about many times or it's very low on the priority list.

I think Panag is missing the point. It's irritating and time-consuming to have to wait to be approved again. This could easily be fixed by adding a "Are you sure?" to leaving.

the point right now is that poor shiber is out , that has to be fixed firts , as for the rest , maybe if Dan has the time to program it , but thats not going to be for soon , ..... if it can be done , ......

and the easiest way is to ask a full mod to reset things , .....

Perhaps the "leave" option should open a confirmation pop-up window when is clicked, that way no accident would happen.

That could be configured by an admin, right?

How true...

Panag: the last time I left a civgroup by accident, I was reapproved in less than an hour IIRC. Still, this is a problem and needs to be fixed; not because some group leaders are not as fast as others, not because it's a nuisance to members and group leaders alike and not for any other such reason, but because it is simply wrong that one should be able to make a change that cannot be cancelled by the simple user without going through a confirmation system of some sort.

Anyways, I'll try PM'ing Gramphos later today (he's the only name that I haven't tried yet).

I always regarded myself as more than a power user. I can code in several programming languages in varying degrees of professionalism, I have had several versions of Linux and FreeBSD installed on my home computer and I am experienced in graphics, website authoring, wide area networking and other fields of computing. I also have a bad aim and keep kicking myself out of a stupid civ group. I feel so dumb

They're adjacent. Probably about 2cm of screen size, on my 1024x760, between the centre of each link (that's a guess, I haven't measured it ).

It only happened this way once. The other three times ( ) I clicked on 'Leave' when I wasn't aiming for 'Private Forum', for instance if I pushed my mouse aside and accidentally clicked and that happened to be where the 'Leave' link was.

Anyway, Gramphos got back to me. There are some difficulties, but he'll see what he can do.
