Turn Halted. Germans Contacted! Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I thought I might try to get the attention of people who don't pay attention to the turn threads.

Go to turn 112. Have a look.

Looks like they beat us to the suicide-Galley punch.

Now what do we do with that Galley? Try to make the reverse-crossing to gain a better negotiation position?

Put an end to popups!

Definately still go for the crossing. If we fail we don't lose much, if we succeed then we don't have to sell our souls for contact :P

where we had originally planned, ther is no telling how long they have been here and they likely crossed at the same point that we are headed for.

Good point. They almost certainly came over just this turn, so they couldn't have come from any further north than 3 tiles north of our galley. Because of our own exploration in the ocean further north and the lack of any sea nearby, moving 877 with our galley next turn will probably get us into range of sea on the other side the following turn.

It's highly likely they took a path similar to the red dots to get across.

It's highly unlikely they took one similar to the blue dots.

Something I just thought about :

We were considering sending our galley with a unit on it.

So it is possible that the Web Ring galley may have a scout.

For those of you wanting to keep Webring away from CDG, you may have to factor in a land unit as well.

Another point.. GoW felt that ND gifted our map away way to easily. (To Lego IIRC).
We may be able to get a map trade in, or even civ contact if they believe we are only 1 turn away from launching our own suicide galley.

It may have a land unit on board, but they haven't been using the fortify-all trick like we have if there is one on that ship.

Yes, ND/GWT was very generous with their map. This may be a very good opportunity for us.

I believe if GWT moved in the previous turn, the new turn resets the facing of units.

Thus, all civs who haven't moved this turn, we'll see their units facing the default direction: SE. Such is the case with GWT.

All civs who have moved before us but during the current turn we'll see their correct facing.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I remember the first FAM PBEM I had 3 horses turned back against BigFree's units and I said they were "giving him the arse", however, BF saw them facing SE.

Got spare money?

Yep, that's the way I saw it.

If we can get GWT's WM, great. But, I'm not willing to give/trade them ours, so we have to pay for it with gold. How much are we willing to pay?

Just to clarify: the world map trade we (Lego) made with ND was not "planned"/"negotiated". It happened because of a mistake on their side, it was not an intention. They offered a GS contact and their world map, asking for our world map and some gold. We countered by omitting our map from the deal and throwing in some gold, accepting... we PMed them then explaining Lego did not trade its WM, but would be interested in the contact for the said amount of gold. But their player (can't recall who it was) made a mistake and simply accepted the whole deal... and as we received the GS contact from someone else on the same turn as ND accepted the whole deal, it effectively meant that we bought their WM for some gold. As it was 100% their mistake, they were not angry about it - at least did not hold it against us and were ok just keeping the gold.

I am quite sure we would not be able to get their world map for what we paid if it was not for that oversight.

Trip, WHY is it SO unlikely that they didn't cross further to the north??

Can you give us some better reasons as to why you think otherwise?
