Even if they are going for Lit next, that's still a Despotic government so we're not screwed - it'll take them awhile to get the tech researched, and even then they'll have to put the gold together to upgrade. Once they've done both those things, we have a simple case of tech parity in our war, and we're still the larger producer and in our Golden Age - and by then, they're probably short a city or two to boot.
Heck, if they got the Library midway through the war that might be a boon to us - we finish them off and get that wonder, but don't have to suffer the reputation hit that comes with building the "Thief Wonder" in MP. We can just say to anyone who asks "hey, we wouldn't have built it, but y'know, disbanding it would be dumb, right?"
Now if we saw the Library appear before the war STARTED, on the other hand...
