"You can veto it's removal IIRC."

Technically, you could scrap the underlying market regulations and programs by qualified majority. The veto is the "vital interest" veto, and political coalitions. CAP has been moved substantially from output to income support, but it's still a total mess, and it will take at least 20 years to knock some sense into it.

Lucky sod, they havn't even sent me one , and i am a member of a constuency association :evenmadder:

And when i said near the beggining that UK conservatives are more conservative, i ment with a small 'c'

Its interesting everyone associates conservatism with purley free market economics, conservatism hasn't always been about that, and there is more to it also imo....

I associate the UK Conservative party with moral conservatism the public school old boy network. "Family Values" and all that sick making stuff whilst behind closed doors they are all ****ging whores and/or bumming each other.

The real difference is that in the US the conservative party (Republicans) get to be the government. In the UK...

The reason is that the general political tendency in the UK seems to be to elect slightly right of centre governments. Unfortunately for the Conservative party here we have such a government and they are not it!

Yeah, the Conservatives seem to basically have the same policies as Labour ('cause Blair stole most of them) but they haven't got over the fact that no-one trusts them after 18 odd years of lies.

I am not sure, I think the reason labour are in is because the thatcher years just burnt out (couldn't stay in forever!), and it was such a blow that some pieces need picking up.

If they weren't so split that they can't elect a strong leader they might have a chance.

I feel an urge to pointlessly criticize your recent post complaining about Mr Oedin's 'Grammar'. First of all, it was not Mr. Oerdin's Grammar whcih was at fault, but rather his spelling. This sort of mistake can easily arise from a simple typographic error. Secondly, in ending such a missive it is more correct to end the concluding phrase with a comma, followed by "yours sincerely," with no capital letters and then the author's name, as demonstrated below,

yours sincerely,

Mr. Rogan Josh.

Typos are not acceptable to the Grammar Nazi.

I think IDS is ok, and a strong PM is not what british politics needs right now, we've recently had to many of those.

Be nice to have someone who the public had heard of though. the best thing you could say about IDS is that he's 'OK' but then Blair's 'OK' so why vote for IDS?

cos blair is a megalomaniac

IDS is the type of PM who NEEDS a good cabinet to stay afloat, and a good cabinet is worth a thousand great PM's.

Got spare money?

quote:
That's where the 10% overall rate came from. It's more expensive here than it used to be but still loads cheaper to go to college here than in the US. Probably explains the lower drop out rates (most drop outs here are for financial reasons).

Well that's not entirely the reason here (though some do drop out because of money). I've seen plenty just get 'tired' of school and drop out, even though they can easily afford it.

It's written on your exam certificates.

The Uni want some kind of reference for you so they can verify your GCSE and A-Level predicted grades, otherwise you could just be pulling that information out of your ass.

Some information would be best hidden from the application process, but previous and current academic achievement obviously shouldn't be. The name, address and contact information of the school is needed to verify any claims the student makes about their academic career on their application form.

Fair point, but that won't work for your predicted A-level grades (which, as you know, your school assign to you directly and are the primary thing Uni's look at when you're applying).

Ah, sorry misread that.

There could easily be a way set up for the schools to put your predicted grades into UCAS for the unis to check without knowing what school you are from.

Well it would give them some idea. Basically all those that are "deciding" who goes where see are exam grades. No race stats, no money stats, no income stats etc. Just exam grades, and some identifying code of the candidate that would mean zilch to them.

By the way if postcodes mean nothing, explain to me why if I moved from this M28 postcode to M27, car insurance premiums go up around 40%...
