Corporate users can't grasp that, for the most part.

Ok, but what keeps legacy type viruses or hacks from a system? Would hardware DRM only be effective in this situation if you're running it throughout your install/domain/network like 2000 only runs many of its features in native mode? Sorry if this is a RTFM moment but since you're pinned down for the moment...

Nothing, unless you force legacy apps to run as Untrusted, which limits what it can do.

I have no idea what you're asking here.

Agathon: When they did they claim that before? Never before has MS had a beta test on as near as large a scale as that.

How long after Palladium comes out will someone write a virus that causes it to lock and encrypt everything?

I think I'll start a pool.

Nevermind. Win2k only has certain features available in native mode. I was wondering if you had the same circumstances for Palladium, as in all or nothing for some features. The fact that apps can still run in legacy mode is nice but still seems to defeat the purpose. At least MS's mistakes keep me employed. Hopefully they'll make a fine mess of this.

I was being facetious. They always say it will work, and it does... sort of...

The problem isn't so much with the idea behind the software, but that MS will use it's dominant status in Office software to leverage competitors out and leave us with a bad monopoly. That, in essence, is what the original post was complaining about.

If they licensed the technology to other software manufacturers then there would be no such problem. But I doubt they'll do that given their track record.

Here's hoping the DOJ does it's job next time.

Yep - there is something to be said for simplicity as a virtue.

It's like the guy I met standing outside his locker, admiring his new 30 dollar super lock (he'd accidentally left his key inside the locker).

Tired of ads?

Given their track record?

Given their track record it'll work soon for other OSes/distros. Much like current Office formats are opened in OpenOffice, etc. and how Samba can make Linux and Windows machines fileshare easily.

And what could possibly be the complaint against MS in this case? They're not even competing with anyone with this technology.

God damn them for innovating, eh? Yeah, I can definitely see the DOJ coming down hard on them for that.

There's also something to be said about two buffoons talking and placing bets on something when they haven't a clue how it works.

Who's placing bets?

We're having a laugh - mainly at your childishly fanatical Microsoft worship, since any joking comment that anyone makes is immediately taken seriously and "refuted" by you.I've had three bites already.

I mean how dare anyone be flippant about Microsoft!!!

You know normal guys follow football teams. I don't think I've ever met anyone else who spent his life supporting a corporation.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I guess I never realized you guys were having a laugh, because it wasn't funny. Maybe you should work on that, or post a disclaimer.

And I'll have you know Palladium isn't a MS thing, but an industry-wide thing. MS is one of MANY players in it, including AMD, Intel, IBM, etc.

Cloud9 starts them because he's truly a dumbass.

You start them because you like the attention from me.

And I'm glad people get enjoyment out of my boredom and knowledge, because I get paid very well for it. It's bonus that it's amusing to some.
