RedFront Tactics: Help Needed to Test Them Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I'm interested in writing a Redfront 1.4 tactic for the 'Art of War' site. I need your help to test my ideas. I cannot do it by myself since this is a huge scenario and I may not be able to experience all possibilities. Any feedback is welcome. If somebody vulunteers to write the tactic for me I'm extremely appreciated.

I'll only demonstrate my own novice ideas. For other commonly known idea please check out Field Marshall Klesh's Strategy on the 'Art of War' site.

Part I--Summer 1941: Two major questions: Where to hold the line and how? Any chance to attack? I'll try to answer the first question. For the second please check out other threads of this forum (attack the Balkans and Finland are your best chances).

Situation analysis: You are severely outnumbered. Most of your cities cannot build good infantry. Your best Tank can be built is T34/85 and Your best defense unit can be built is AA battery. The good thing is: you only need to hold till Winter comes.

The best thing you can do is to concentrate your forces to a single city and try to hold it. With an anti-tank defense (city wall) and a barracks, your units can recover in one turn. But where?

Here comes my idea: You have 3 labor brigades in Moscow, 2 in Stalingrad, 3 in Leningrad, and one in the city north to Moscow. In June of 1941, rush build some freighters in selected cities, then in July 1941 ferry those labor brigades to the front using chain-trasportation.

To the north, build a city between Narve and Talinin (right on the fortified position), then pass through this city and ferry a labor brigade to the south and build another city on the fortified position as well.

To the south, you can find a fortified position south of Kiev, and another Northeast of Odessa. Build cities there.

I'm not sure about the center front. Is it possible to hold Minsk or Smolensk, with the help of the partisans? If it can't be done, then another city should be built on a spruce square to hold the front.

Don't forget to enter the city window and change the host cities for the fortified positions to the newly built cities. Rush build anti-tanks, then barracks. Move your other cities' defense forces to reinforce those new cities.

I believe this is the best chance for you to hold the front. The city south to Kiev is difficult to hold. It just slows down the German. Other cities should be able to hold and Mother Russia will be safe!

More to come.

Tired of ads?

Don't forget to fortify the 'fortified positions'. They can only be fortified within city windows.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Here comes the strategy of the year!

In the first post of this thread I suggested that you build a city on the 'fortified position's and change the host city. Now I carry this idea forward one more step...

Build cities on your fortified positions which are on the river banks, then use freights to FERRY THE FORTIFIED POSITIONS TO OTHER CITIES! You can ferry several fortified positions to Odessa and Kiev.

Finally there is a hope to hold on the Germans at Kiev and Odessa!

I have just finished setting up June41 to my liking, and am getting ready to play through it for the first time, so I will try to use some of your tactics

(correction-mills and Izba are +50%, kollectives are +100% and villages are units; mines give no bonus) The urban special terrains (papermill, village, collective farm, sawmills) have +xxx% def, these would make great locations for new cities.

The regular forests lose their 50% defensive bonus in the winter, but spruce forests do not, so those will make better cities.

In the cities that I think I will lose, I pulled everyone off the land and made them scientist specialists to start starving the city. I also spent almost all of my cash to keep it out of German hands when the cities fall, and set the tax rate to 10% cash 80% science 10% lux to limit cash for the first couple of turns.

You have about 20 fortified positions and 5 fortified artillaries. However in the first several turns you can only move up to 9 (?) of them since you only have that many labor brigades handy.

But I believe that, at Southern front you can hold Kiev, the fortified position east of Kirovgrad, and Odessa; at the Northern front you can hold Riga and the fortified position east of it. You need to concentrate your effort in the center front and fend off the Germans in Minsk and do not let too many Germans pass you from north of it.

If you can hold the front with ease, try to be more aggressive. Use naval bombardment to attack Romania, occupy its eastmost city, and ferry a fortified position to the city to take care of the counter-attack. The next turn, Attack Bucharest!

Why would moving zero move units be cheating? It is just hyper-efficient logistics!

This move the forts thing is killing me since I am stuck at work and can't look at the map...

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Newest report: After successfully moved fortified positions to Riga, Kiev, Odessa, and Nikolaev, the Northern and Southern fronts held out. German troops were 'clever' enough that they avoided attacking those cities. Very few German troops sneaked pass through the line (4 tanks and 1 infantry from north of Kiev or between Kiev and Nikolaev). A majority of German troops were wandering west of Odessa, or trapped in the marshes between Kiev and Minsk. I only lost Kirovgrad on the South, no cities from the North were lost.

The Germans had a hard time trying to infiltrate from north of Minsk. The terrians were tough so for each city they captured, they had a headache from my partisans. I don't think the German can reach Moscow or Leningrad before winter if they take that route.

The problem is that I could not hold Minsk in the central front. Other than that I was really successful. Any suggestions on were to put my defense city (I have one labor brigade airlifted to Smolensk).

With fortified position in the cities, I really don't need any other units. This way I can concentrate my forces to other places. I'm disbanding units to build catyusha. Airbases were built at eastmost cities. The labor brigades will be airlifted to west and more fortified positions will be moved. They will be used whever I capture a German coastal city. Comrades, onward to Vienna!
