They called me a liberal. I don't consider myself a liberal at all, so I thought the test was broken, but then I looked at their definitions:
quote: Liberals…
Are wary of American arrogance and hypocrisy |
I agree that we do have some, and it gets out of hand sometimes, but I don't make a huge fuss about it.
quote: Trace much of today's anti-American hatred to previous US foreign policies. |
Of course. There is no other reason for them to hate us.
quote: Believe political solutions are inherently superior to military solutions |
Well, duh. Of course they are. War is hell, even if it is necessary sometimes.
quote: Believe the US is morally bound to intervene in humanitarian crises |
Sure we should intervene, but only of the costs are fairly low and we can actually help instead of enfore a temporary, unwanted ceasefire that only lasts while we have troops there.
quote: Oppose American imperialism |
Any imperialism stinks, and I would oppose American imperialism if I believed we had any.
quote: Support international law, alliances, and agreements |
How else will we get a civilized planet?
quote: Encourage US participation in the UN |
That's the only one I really disagree with. The UN stinks.
quote: Believe US economic policies must help lift up the world's poor |
We should at least refrain from actively harming them, as with farm subsidies.
quote:
Historical liberal: President Woodrow Wilson
Modern liberal: President Jimmy Carter
|
Great. I get compared to the idealistic fools who failed to do anything useful. Oh well.

Liberal
Liberals?
Are wary of American arrogance and hypocrisy
Of course
Trace much of today's anti-American hatred to previous US foreign policies.
Believe political solutions are inherently superior to military solutions
Naturally
Believe the US is morally bound to intervene in humanitarian crises
No. I think help should be given if it is asked for. In that respect, I'm isolationist. Of course, in most cases, it is asked for so no problems! Of course, if its asked for, one cant shy away because its not politically or economically convenient.
Oppose American imperialism
I dont like the way this encourages anti-American moaning, I am opposed to all imperialism by default.
Support international law, alliances, and agreements
Goes without saying.
Encourage US participation in the UN
Keep it coming!
Believe US economic policies must help lift up the world's poor
No. I believe economic policies should be such that the world is largely indifferent to them, where they are not benevolent, but of course, its priority is keeping its own nation healthy. Of course, we do live in a global economy!
realpolitic:
I don't think neoconservatism is worthy of critiquing, and I'm not going to repeat past efforts yet again. You can breathe now.
