GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG - The Downfall of the Third Reich.
Playtest version available!

After the failure of Operation Market Garden the Western Allies
are not able to end the war in 1944.
On the Western Front the American, British, Canadian and French
soldiers await the next war-torn winter.
On the Eastern Front the Soviet Armies are stopped for a while
to resupply their depots and repair their supply routes.

It is now October 1944, and Hitler just left the Wolfsschanze
and returned to the Reichskanzlei in Berlin. It seems that the
end of the Third Reich is drawing nearer and nearer. Sitting in
the Bunker under the Reichskanzlei Hitler awaits the Judgement
of Destiny. His daemonic vision of his end has come very, very
close. Hitler´s Götterdämmerung is about to happen soon ...

THE MAJOR POWERS:

UNITED STATES - The world´s best equipped army stands at the
borders of the Third Reich, only the Rhine and the Elbe River
are lying between its armies and Berlin. Can the US Army manage
to conquer the German Capital before the Red Army does?

UNITED KINGDOM & ALLIES - Armed with vast numbers of American
equipment the British Army took place in the Normandy Invasion
and stands now at the northern wing of the Western front, ready
to cross the Rhine and march trough the Ruhr Valley over the
plains of Northern Germany straight to Berlin. Can the armies
of the British Commonwealth support the US Army or is Montgomery
up to capture Berlin by himself?

SOVIET UNION - After retreating to the Volga River and attacking
for one and a half year the Red Army stands now at the Vistula
River, in the heart of Poland. Germany lost many men and good troops
too but is the Red Army able to take the last steps to Total Victory
by advancing further West to Berlin and reach Hitler´s bunker
before the Western Allies?

THE ENEMY - THE THIRD REICH: After the Normandy Invasion on June 6
and five years of war the German Juggernaut seemed to be really
exhausted and the Western Allies believed that the end of this
horrible war has come at least. But Eisenhower, Montgomery and
Bradley made wrong calculations.
After July 20 many leading officers of the Wehrmacht were executed
and/or replaced by fanatic National Socialists who reorganized the
German Army during the last weeks of the summer 1944.
September 1944 saw the Allied failure at Nijmegen and Arnhem and
the United States and Great Britain had to accept that the war
would not be over in 1944 and prepared their troops for another
winter.
Under these circumstances Hitler diverted reserves and supplies
from the Eastern Front to the Rhine Land dreaming of turning the
tide and throwing the Americans, Britons and Canadians back into
the Sea ...

This scenario was initially designed as Multiplayer Scenario as a 'Race to Berlin' by all three enemies of the Third Reich would be really interesting to watch .... May the most ruthless commander-in-chief win this race!

Some of my playtesters reported that playing one side they saw advancing the other allied (AI-controlled) powers advance too. I think that the AI is way too stupid to make this a real challenging race but who knows ....

BTW what does Götterdämmerung mean?

Close combat III has the same title for the battle for Berlin scenario.

'Götterdämmerung' ('Twilight of the Gods') is the 4th part of Richard Wagner´s 'Ring der Nibelungen' (sorry but I do not know the english expression for it).
The 'Götterdämmerung' shows the end of the Gods and the end of their refuge, Valhalla (following the germanic myths). Wagner was Hitler´s favourite composer (because Wagner was a strong anti-semite too). Try this link for additional information on Wagner´s opera.

He is one of me faves.

"Ring der Nibelungen" is simply Ring of the Nibelungen. It was what made Siegfried invinsible, yes?

I am familiar with the Germanic myths and Wagner's "Twilight of the Gods", i just couldn't translate
the German(although i had three years of German Lessons in the university....).
