Thoughts on "child" diapers and bed wetting.... Remove this text

I just saw a commercial for diapers for children(8-12) who have bed wetting problems.

Pissing your bed is done while your asleep, and its done by your unconcious mind-therefore if there is no real negative re-percusion(i.e. pissing all over your bed instead of just changing your diaper), dosent that mean someone would never stop doing it?

Works out great for the diaper company, but seems to screw their customers.

It might be that the loss of shame would actually help, as the shame is a major part of why children continue to wet the bed.

What house did you grow up in? Shame is a major deterrent to not watch the bed.

My sister gave me some good advice last night (we're about to begin toilet training): When the child wets him/herself, make sure your child is majorly inconvenienced by requiring him/her to help change the sheets... especially if it's like 2:00am or something. The kid will get sick of that really quick.

Why don't they just have the kid go to the bathroom before he goes to sleep?

Some of us don't know enough not to drink beer and smoke a couple of bowls before bedtime. Simple as that. If you haven't slept normally in a couple of weeks, trust me, you'll have the same reaction:

You'll start dreaming that you need to use the bathroom, and in your dreams you start looking for a bathroom, and when/if you finally find one, it'll be the dirtiest, nastiest place in the world. If you convince yourself to go, you might wet the bed. If you convince yourself you DON'T have to go, you'll wake up with a bladder infection. It's a natural positive/negative feedback loop from your brain to your bladder, and in between is your consciousness trying to tell you to wake the f up and GO.

Not to mention what 12 hours of cocaine and a subsequent GHB induced pseudo coma will do to a young man! YUCK

My immediate family had a (seemingly) hereditary problem with this. Both my brother and I were on "late" side in stopping bedwetting. What worked for us an electronic "pad" that started buzzing when it becomes moist. Usually after two or three weeks of buzzing, they get trained to get up, clean up and stop.

That promotes shame and insecurity. Change their sheets for them and let them sleep in your bed, right after giving him/her a hug and a lolli pop.

I never had a problem with this, but I guess the fast growing kids who outgrow their bladders got the last laugh. Because they are now bigger than me.

Sometimes additional training helps, sometimes it does not. Some kids just have too small bladders. There's a drug called DDAVP that works in the majority of cases, and if that doesn't work certain anti-depressants often will.

Child diapers are also sometimes used to treat Encopresis. Did you think of that?

Get a bad case of insomnia. You never forget to go to the bathroom if you have insomnia. I often forget HOW to get to the bathroom, but if you try enough doors you eventually hit pay dirt one way or another.
