My previous post was unneccessarily harsh. Apologies to any Norton fans out there; Ed scares me a bit. Actually, quite a lot.

He does need to take a break on the weasly roles, though, otherwise he'll end up being famous for Italian Job-style roles instead of really good movies.

I thought he looked better in FC than in AHX, because
his appearance seemed too fabricated in AHX.

Of course, I'm always a sucker for a comedy over a drama, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

However, I can say for CERTAIN that one look that doesn't work for Ed is the swim trunks/fake bake tan/matte shades look. The goatee's better on than off. Still needs a haircut, but maybe that's the fault of chlorinated water and a dearth of styling product, I don't know.

Tired of ads?

I could never follow this advice. This style just wont work for some people.

I go to a private school in Maine (United States) and wear kakis and a tucked in shirt with a tie everyday. On weekends it's most likely shorts or kaki pants with a tee shirt and polo shirt over that.

Your suggestions just wont work here, I only occasionally see people dressed like you suggest and they look like fools.

Suffering from ads?

Well, certainly my dress was not particularly thrilling, but I did make an effort. I'd say there's a 95% chance that Ecthelion overdresses, which is even worse than dressing simply.

Now admittedly central Cambridge is prep central, but if you'd wear the clothes Speer wears here, you'd be seen as a townie. A white guy wearing those kind of clothes soon starts to look like the guy from the "pretty fly for a white guy" video.

As for your hair things... Different things look better on different people. On me long hair looks bad, which is why I keep it short (and spiky, but not particularly cared for. Just ran my hands through my hair and tussle it up), on other people it looks good. I got short sideburns (halfway down my ears) because my ears stand out a bit, and they make them slightly less noticeable.

As for clothes. I don't dress to impress at uni. I come back from my rowing and grab whatever clothes are clean. I use a lot of sports "stash" (uni sports team apparel, as i get it cheap). I don't do the XXXXXL T-shirt thing (is hard for me anyway as i fill up a XXL T shirt at my height and build).

Nights out you often end wearing a suit here, and then you're best off going for a fitted shirt (with good cuff links) and a tailored suit, with a patterned tie (no comedy, no block colours). And black shoes with a dark suit, and in my opinion there are only three shirt colours for a decent dark grey/black suit (white, grey, blue and variations there on).

Basically you have to play to your physical strengths and attempt to hide the weaknesses. So don't wear tight gear when you got a fat gut, don't wear baggy trousers when you're short, etc. Some people can carry off different clothes than others. I can't carry off bright colours/hawaii shirts etc, but look very good in a suit, tux or even training trousers with a hooded sweater at 6'5" and ~220lbs.

I'm with the left-handed gay guy. Hoodies, jeans, t's, cap only as necessary. Oh yeah, and shoes - the comfortable kind.

You know, I noticed that a woman's b1tch1ness may be directly proportional to the discomfort of her shoes. The higher the heel and more pointed the toe, the more evil and rude she may go. Maybe that's just LA and NY, I don't know.

;p
