normally I go by lyrics, but in this case the song lacks lyrics.

I think it might be. The original context of the music, at least where I heard it, was on CTS Television's stock market reports (first song) and weather reports (second song). The second song I also heard being used as a theme song for a radio station in Arizona, or maybe New Mexico.

Hmm, those are tricky. Normally when it's a song with lyrics, you can google it easily, like this:

lyrics "(insert phrase you remember here)"

It will link to lyrics pages that have that phrase. It works every time.

I hummed your two songs and I don't know either of them, but I felt like giving my tip on songs with words.

Do you know the composer? Maybe you could access a website devoted to his music and find a sample?

Little chance tho, it's got mostly folk music. You can search for note sequences and regular expressions there, but you'll have to figure out ABC notation. It's quite simple though.

Haven't had a chance to play with the notes yet, but what is the instrumentation? Orchestral? How fast is the music?

It sounded orchestral. The first song is very light and has a tempo approximately 120. The second song is about the same speed but the notes are smoother.
