Poll! Typical - the one new posts thread I didn't see... And it's 16-2 now. I'm one of those unhappy - I get the feeling it is nye who is the other. Why is it that 2 of the 3 Consuls find such a different opinion? This is not something to be trivialised, and our concerns are very legitimate. Whatever your vote, if you haven't made it already - make it a very carefully considered one.

Never mind - there's still a few days in the poll. Time enough to swing the remaining voters to avoid a potential catastrophe. I'm only half-joking though.

And it's not Equilibrium I'm worried about - it's how vulnerable the rest of our lands are. Open to attack from the sea in several directions, we are putting all our eggs in one basket, and I for one will be happy with this only with the utmost caution. And it seems the idea is to throw away that caution that we have been observing so well for a few upgrades?

Got spare money?

Gosh, you really are worried about GCA Galleys even though you say you are not. Which is it; Are you worried or not? I am not.

GCA won't have the time nor resources to build Galleys, let alone the time to gather troops and launch them towards us. If you really are worried then we can build another Galley in Incensity and send it towards GCA. If, after the war is over, and our other suicide Galley has failed, maybe we can use this new Galley to cross to the East. We can pop a Galley out of Incensity in 3 turns in our GA; or we could use our soon to be abundant gold reserve to rush one in BigBend.

I am worried about the possibility of it. I think it is unlikely we will see them, but if we do we could be in deep sh*t.

That is a fair assumption, but an assumption nonetheless. We all know what "assume" can do - I just feel that we should take as much care as possible.

That would be along the lines of what I'd hope for if we were to sell MM to GCA, but we need to be sure we can intercept any Galleys sent long enough before they reach us to prepare an adequate response. This will require both scheduling the Galley to be built, time to transport it and a position we are sure GCA cannot bypass.

If GCA were to actually build 2 galleys, and take an additional 4 critical units away from the defense of their cities that we're steamrolling and then sail those galleys for ages around the peninsula and somehow avoid being spotted by us and then land them next to one of our cities, so what?

Seriously, so what?

Our cities are tightly knit and are spaced so that units can move between them in a single turn. We'll be in our GA and poping out at least 1 unit every turn. We can rush build if we want to. We have a fantastic road network, we have industry, we have better defenders AND better attackers, we have numbers, we will have early warning and they will have wasted time and units on one of the dumbest, pointless assaults in the history of the game. Effectively taking away 6 30sheild units (2 galleys, + either horses or swords) from the battle against us where they are needed, and throwing them away.

I'm serious. I actually wish they'd do something this dumb. I don't see why our leaders are so paranoid about a couple of units being dropped into our home turf where we can easily kill them.

Our homeland is so tightly spaced that only a very large stack can effectively threaten it. We have every advantage, they have none. Let them come.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

We do not need to actually block their supposed galley, just detect it so we can complete a defender or 3 in time.

I hope that they do divide their force in the face of a superior enemy. Custer did just this at the Little Bighorn.

We should encourage them to make a similar mistake.

As long as we all understand that giving them MM will require us to employ some extra forces to guard against the sea, then I would not hinder the plan.

We would need an extra merc at Equilibrium. We would need 2 ground units, or a ground unit and a galley watching the coast to the SE of Big Bend.

IF we ignored the possibility of GCA launching a spite attack, and IF they landed adjacent to Bananatopia at the wrong time, then we certainly COULD wake up one turn to see a pile of rubble where once a great city stood...

Finding out the turn they land would not help very much. They land, we say, sh*t. The only units in the area would be whatever completed that turn in Apolyton, Mingapulco, and Banatopia, plus whatever completed the previous turn at Nana. Assume 1 or 2 units could make it to Banantopia that turn. We could very easily lose the city.

On the subject of Equilibrium, we most likely want to send an extra unit or two there anyway. For some reason, that area of the map is very barb rich, and some of the spawning grounds are very close to our city. An MI up there could more than pay for itself.

Just to let everyont think of this option, they could move on the inland sea and come at us from the west coast, but that would be best to also use a settler, to allow the quick landing of units.

How much do we have over there right now? (sorry I haven't taken a good look at the latest saves yet ). I wouldn't want to discount the fact that even though CFC is in bed with us right now they could decide during our war that we are vulnerable and send some of their units our way for an opportunistic gain. It probably won't happen, but there is always the possibility.

We have 1 vet merc and 1 vet warrior.

With barbs coming from 2 directions, we do not have enough to hold the city, hunt the barbs, and guard the road at the same time. Oh, and then there are the workers and soon to be colony to be protected.

In short, we need a bit more at that choke point, with or without GCA having MM.

This would be a good task for one of the upgraded MIs 8-11.

Because we'd rather upgrade regulars in use elsewhere than vets with nothing to do.

No, it's because we'd save the Vets for the war effort. I'd rather upgrade a Reg Warrior now and send him to EQ than to upgrade a Vet Warrior and send him there. The difference is that we have a Vet Warrior standing by for upgrade for any war effort versus a Regular.
