I suggested it when we were discussing possible topics, and was told a firm no.

I figured we'll come up with 1 artsy topic, 1 serious topic, and one wacked topic. Then we run a poll in the public forum on which topic will be used for the debate.

With the serious topic we'll avoid religion and anything that would envoke too strong an opinion. The three judges will make the final decision on who argued the point best (not who is right).

Just ask the people in your forum if there would be at least 2 people that would be willing form a debating team.

Decided not to actually post the idea to the main forum until I first rustled up some support. Otherwise it would turn into just another spam thread.
