Aren't homosexuals promoting usage of the word by using it themselves and trying to take the negative connotations out of it?

If they wanted straights to not use the word, they should probably stop using it themselves to prevent any interpretation that it could be 'ok'.

It's a way of coping, for minorities. Somehow it means a lot to people when you turn an insult people use against you and use it freely with eachother. I don't suppose you'd understand, seeing as you go out of your way to mimick the people around you.

Also, when gays use the word "fag hag" it's not the responsibility for gays on how heteroes use/misuse that word -- that is out of our control.

That is silly. Taking a 'slur' and 'turning into our own thing' is utterly ridiculous IMO. It just makes the term seem ok. I've never called a fellow Pakistani 'sandnigger' or 'dothead' so we can turn it around. We don't want to have it used at all, so us using it would defeat the purpose. It'd keep the slur around.

But you are using a certain word that has hatred behind it. You should try to make the word go away, rather than making it seem 'ok' to some people. So in some little way, it may be within your control.

I do think that 'nigger' wouldn't enjoy the same 'popularity' among non-blacks if it wasn't for rap music. We should end ALL slurs, not try to turn around some.

Just because one group are idiots doesn't mean the others aren't as well. The people that use it with bad intent are idiots, but so are the people that use it with 'good' intent and then not realize that this makes people think it may be ok for them to use in normal parlance.

Plenty of whites use the term 'my nigger' because it is said so much in rap music. It isn't considered a horrible word that should be avoided because blacks themselves use it so much! I've heard whites who wear hip hop clothes, etc., call their friends 'my nigger'. Why? Because they think it is ok because blacks do so in rap music. Of course there will be a more than few blacks that take offense to whites using the term.

Though the funniest is when these white hip hoppers call their white friends 'my nigga' .
