Can anybody cite chapter and verse? I'm not challenging you, I'm just honestly curious.

David Floyd's got it right: Sunday worship was instituted by Constantine, who co-opted a pagan Sabbath (the Day of the Sun) for his purposes. It's part of the long history of Christianity co-opting aspects of paganism to win converts.

As I recall, the cult of Mithras had to do with Sun worship.

yes

I think there is a catechism about that

(of course those of us who are not catholics and reject the churchs authority have no reason to think so)

My IE history file considers Monday to be the first day of the week. Everything gets stuffed into a huge 'last week' folder.

The fact that the Americans have gone against the norm yet again shouldn't surprise anyone, they always try to find ways to satisfy their inferiority complex by adopting their own ridiculous standards.

More like we don't feed the European inferiority complex by adopting the new and unecessary standards that they set up in order to feel useful.

I said unecessary, not useless. The metric system is certainly a fine system of measurement and easier to use than the imperial system still in use in America. That being said, it is far from necessary, as you can get along just fine using the imperial system as we American do on a daily basis. No need to ditch a perfectly useful and entrenched system just because some jag-offs in Paris think up a new one.

edit: Oh, and all the maps show metric measurements so stupid Eurocom tourists can get around our lovely country, not because any Americans actually use the metric system.

That's what they want you Continentals to think. They pretend to like the metric system, but it's pretty clear they long for the old ways deep down. They still list the weights of soccer players in stones, for god's sake.
