CTP2 code and Freeciv Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

I am not a programmer so I'm not sure how hard it would be, but are there any Freeciv-ers who are looking forward to getting their hands on the CTP2 source code if/when it is released, and if so is there any feature you'd like to grab for a new version of Freeciv? In CTP, things like visible trade routes were kind of neat (though to be honest I haven't checked out the latest Freeciv build so it may have been added).

Anyway, I just wanted to know if some of those "in the know" were planning on implementing aspects of CTP in Freeciv, and what features they might be. Thanks!

I very much doubt that the CTP2 source code will be useful to us. The chance that it will be released under a compatible license is IMHO low, and it is IIRC written in C++, while Freeciv is written in C.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

FWIW, the CTP2 source code is out, and the license is not open source. It is actually quite restrictive. I am not surprised.

Cripes, I've just read the EULA. This hasn't anything to do with open source, this is the type of contract they would give to a studio doing a port. In this case, the customer (gamer) is the studio.

Per,

I think it might be a good time to put out a developers statement on the Freeciv page that the CTP2 source cannot and may not be used with Freeciv.

I am not sure why, unless it is to educate people on the importance of reading the fine print, and why it is good to support really Free software.

I don't think the so-called 'open source' CTP version is going anywhere. There's just too much cluelessness, naivity and license limits for that.
