Isaac Newton ??? Got spare money?

who named a ship Isaac Newton?

C'mon, ships need nams like Hood, Repulse, Renown, Ajax etc (or Bismark if you are German). Something to strike fear into our enemies!!!!!

heh, actually I don't mind but just fancied starting a bit of discussion in here

Have we got a naming system for ships? I know Nimitz wants the first Lego carrier called after himself I can list a load of famous names the Royal Navy have used but they may or may not be appropriate, or we can name them after stars, or we can take tuns naming them, or we can name them something random or even meaningful! (LLS TakeKnightsToKillStormians)

comments?

The naming scheme I am currently using for galleys and caravels (in short: for transport ships) is based upon the great thinkers of the medieval times. It sorta started with that pun, Galleyleo Galleylei... the next one got to be Giordano Bruno, then Nicholas Copernicus (all three involved in the Earth/Sun-centrism issue), and now Isaac Newton. A side-effect is that they can be called a two-letter abbreviation (G.G., G.B., N.C., I.N.).

I would change the scheme once mightier ships that can actually fight enter the stage - frigates and onwards. Then, your knowledge of the Royal Navy will come in handy.

Suffering from ads?

We will have more than just British ship names right ? It would be good to throw some other names in there too.

I'd guess that once we proceed into the later stages of the game, US Navy names will become very appropriate, too (WW2).

Well I was not just talking US navy ship names, I could understand why it could be boring to name ships after mainly states. What I was meaning was we should have some devirsity in the names.

Yeah of course, I was thinking we should try and legoise the names where possible. eg Ark Lego instead of Ark Royal (The most famous RN ship name through the ages)

Heh, my ego doesn't stretch that far There has been no official naval vessel of that name, although it is rumoured that the Soviets were building the largest Battleship the world would have ever seen after the second world war. The ship would have been called 'Red Star'. They got as far as laying the keel down before it was decided to scrap it in favour of developing a more mobile anti-submarine and anti-carrier navy.

LS Tiberius sounds good for a privateer though Pirate ship I certainly think we should invest in on, its a good way of finding out what everyone else has as they will no doubt chase it
