Michael Fetterman (or others who know) a question for you about the editor Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

ok I have two questions

1) Much to my dismay as a modmaker civ3 (at least in PtW) only allows retreat from unit's with 1 movement point. Because of this a 3 mp unit can't retreat from a 2mp unit, nor can a 4mp unit etc...because of this in my mod retreat wasn't an option in the Industrial and Modern ages. Does Conquests correct this? The reason i said correct is because I heard in an early version (possibly civ3 without any patches) as long as a unit had more movement than another it could retreat.

2) Is it possible in Conquests to mod movement along railroads? Infinite movement on railroads gives rise to many problems in terms of strategy imo, and I was wondering if Conquests gave us options to change it.

Both are good questions...

Unfortunately I haven't had time to get my hands really dirty with the editor aside from tweaking Sengoku (nor do I have a copy of it at home to poke around with at the moment). I will have to defer to Jesse Smith (Producer for Civ-Conquests) in this case to get you an answer for these.

In either case, one of us will probably post with a response shortly (read: hopefully before the end of this week).

Cool

I didn't expect anyone from Firaxis to even have time until the game was out.

IMO railroad movements must be surelly higher than roads, but as well they shouldn't be teletransports like Strartrek.

This is not the issue here, but whether modders can modify it for specific scenarios.

IMO transporting units from one end of your empire to the other end in one turn makes sence, because one turn in the standard game is at least one year. You can transport a tank from Washington to Berlin in one year, can't you?
The question is more one of gamebalance: you can send your troops to the other end of the world on railroads and then use all their movement points for an attack, while with your airplanes for example you can't do that. You must first rebase them and only attack in the next turn. Something like this should be done with rairoad movement, too. Maybe moving a unit on railroad should "eat" one of the unit's movement points; or perhaps movement on railroad should be fixed and limited: say, 20 tiles/turn; something like this, I don't know.

Anyway, the change Civ3 introduced (denying the use of roads/railroads in enemy teritorry) was a good one

I find it quite unbalanced as it is now in Civ3,because if an enemy releases let's say 20 units on your shores ( in the reality this could require few hours ) ,when he is ready to attack you can defend yourselves with almost every unit your military have,so let's say 2 hundreds in time zero, while in the reality a tank take at least one day to come tothe battle point, meanwhile attacking troup after few hours are already ready to attack.

To finish my speech I can say I find right to have the range of the 15 or 20 for free as you said,or leaving the editor the possiblity to customize this factor.

(1) re Retreating: I would prefer retreat rules to be editable so ANY unit could retreat. Perhaps the chances would be reduced an experience level it the enemy was faster.

I have been told that there are no plans to correct this particular issue in this expansion...

...I have been told that this is also not going to be modified.

I get the distinct impression that BreakAway Games is focusing their time more on newer features and improvements rather than fixing previous aspects or issues from the PTW editor.

Regardless of what their approach is - I will send info regarding both of these issues to the development team in order to make certain that they are aware of them - and so that they are aware there is concern for them.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Korn-

No problem... I'll definitely post info to this thread if I do hear anything else on these from the dev-team.

In the mean time, (I mentioned this in the scripting thread)... I'll do what I can to get some editor screenshots posted for the next Civ3.com site update.

take care,
-Michael
