It's a bit of a crapshoot since GWT's capitol is roughly northeast of the PoA. They could have expanded to the coast almost any direction. I would say we should go west/south though as I think the better opportunity for meeting the other civs comes from there.

BTW, can someone post a screenshot in here so we don't have to go to the other thread when discussing this? Thanks.

West is probably the best option - I think it's likely that most land and thus the other civs lie in that direction.

I'm a little surprised this is even a topic of debate- west/southwest seems the obvious choice. Unless GWT has a *tiny* land area, heading north will head directly into their land. Taking a quick gander at their score tells us that they do NOT have a tiny land area.

Westward ho!

Very Interesting....

An undeveloped Gems mountain tile and undeveloped hill tile. All reasonably close to GWT. Ok not FAR from GWT.

Looking at coastline, the choices are

8 9 8
or
7 4 4

And 7 4 4 will expose more land tiles than 8 9 8

Put an end to popups!

7 7 1 is an option, too (uncovers more land, but makes fewer progress).

Actually there are 3 mountain tiles with gems, no hills in sight yet.

According to my graphics mod, anyways.

I just want the Galley to be there when we open the save!

West and eventually South is the direction we will take. We are now looking for only CGN.

If we go East (towards the CGN Galley), then 8 9 8 unload 4 (onto Mountain) seems good. If West, 4 4 7. We may uncover more sea a different way - but who cares about sea with a continent and a couple of civs to discover!

It's too bad we can't work out that possible map trade right away before deciding on this. For now I'd say continue to go west around the possible bottom of the continent. But I reserve the right to change my opinion.

question for da player:

Did we see the galley sail by? ( from sw)

Did the galley simply appear with the fort all extended visibility? ( implies galley came from the north or northeast)

This is correct. However, they could still have come from the south-west, since we haven't been able to see the coast until THIS turn, meaning they could have been in the coast to the south-west on previous turns and we'd never have seen it.

I think it's obvious we need to go south-west. Look at the map. 2 civs have been killed. Through powergraph estimation CGN has 19 cities. There's no way CGN + Grenouille with 19 cities could be tucked away EAST of GWT, leaving the entire rest of that hemisphere to GWT.

There is no conceivable way in hades that that CGN galley was south of us last turn and north of us this turn without our seeing it last turn.

Look at the image posted above. Count the tiles.

In light of the new map from CGN, I propose we head back the way we came and go North, around the top of GWT, which is currently unknown to us and CGN.

Any takers?

Probably best. Heading west was based more on not having CGN's map then anything (at least my decision was based on that). Now we head north to discover other areas that we don't know about yet. Of course if we get GWT's map then PoA won't have too much more to do for a while.
