We won a battle not the war. Many wars have been lost when people failed to follow up on victories. That being said wars have also been lost becasue people got careless after a victory and exposed themselves.
So lets decide what to do. I've waited to do this until now becasue there is little followup we will be able to do this turn(unless gs put 8 more knights on that hill) or some other bone headed move.

My suggestion: clean up Roleplay.

How?

We should be thinking about sweeping up from the south, i.e. take Barcelona and then go for GS's port city and New Madrid. After those fall, we can threaten Toledo and finally assault Pamplona.

The reasoning:

We need to 1) destroy as many GS units as we can. 2) Force Roleplay to disperse their army so we can destroy it piecemeal. 3) Eliminate RP's presence on Bob. 4) Begin peace talks or simply kill off any continuous invasions by GS.

RP's morale will be shattered the more GS units we kill. Without GS for defense, they will have to defend their remaining cities themselves or simply hole up in Pamplona. The more we force them to disperse, the less troops we'll face in Pamplona. Once Pamplona is out of the picture, GS will find it almost impossible to establish a presense on Bob.

I was writing an almost identicle response...lucky I checked before spending any more time on it.

Problem I see however.

I think as we advance on each RP city, it will be gifted to GS, and they will hid all of their units in it.
We wont find many GS units in the open again, unless we sit and wait for their next expansion attempt.

We are going to have to assault fortified pikes & knights in cities. And GS will probably put every unit they have into them.

The other option, is a direct assault on Pampalona first.
Here, we can get a investigation from Vox, and know exactly what we are facing before we attack.

I dont know which one I would prefer.

Don't worry H_E, attacking Pamplona first is also an idea I have in my head, and am equally undecided as to which is more sound at this moment. Both have very good points in favor and against.

I say attack Pamplona first

Why?

It would be unexpected and demoralizing.

We have given GS the impression of only fighting opportunistic battles. We have failed to this point to attack such a heavily defended ciy. We KNOW everything RP has is in that one city.

Take and RAZE IMO Pamplona, RP ceases to have anything resembling a presence on bob and we reinforce our bold and unpredictable motto.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I say we regroup and fortify. And harass GS, we need to convince GS and Roleplay that we are committed to taking either Pamplona and/or Barcelona. This will cause them to move all their troops down here as quickly as possible.

Then we assault Toledo with the Diversionary Force. Encourage them to think that the entire southern build up is a ruse and that we took Toledo with the scouting element of a MUCH larger army, an army of Musketmen and Catapults that is moving slowly.

If they fall for that we attack them with the full force from the Alamo.

I too have considered direct assault on pamploma. But would rather wait until the city had been reduced to 6 by bombardment. They have by my estimate at least 20 units there, who currently with hill and 7+ citizens are at a 100% defesnive bonus+ the have catapults.

Occupying and razing Pamploma would give me great pleasure. However equal pleae would be given by forcing RP to gift all their cities to GS and Gs to have to pay for all those units. Especially when we shelled pamploma to a pop of one.

My current idea is this. We or nd(most likely) sends workers to road that mountain due south of pamploma. From there a force of catpults protected by muskets can shell at will. RP will be forced to take desperate measures to end this shelling and perhaps waste troops in a suicidal attack. Pamploma being reduced to 1 is hilarious additionaly we can shell the approach road through the forest from there and thus protect alamo.

While this is happening when we get to 20 riders in or near the Alamo, we launch an atack toward Barcelona. this city being a port is KEY. while we rush that way the Nd ansars, with only 2 defense, attack the forces that we bypass(always centering in on MI, the pikes can rot for all I care).

At the same time the Toledo force arrives(they will get in view of RP/GS next turn). GS must make a decision "where do they defend". 5 more riders are leaving this turn for the 2 turn trip to the location 1nw of Lowenmutt. This force can, on the 3rd turn from now, either attack the moutnain 2ne of Toledo, thus thratening the Central coastal cities or swing south to assist the barcelona force. 2 more riders will leave macao and will be in the alamo in 3 turns. With the 20 forces currently there(including panzer, who might or might not be with us still). These extra forces bring us to 32 riders in the south(including the 5 rider Toledo diversionary force).

ND still has about 11 ansars, near the alamo. They could basically destroy what forces we leave behind. also they have a 7pike force that will be upgraded soon. They were considering sending this force e to cover their ansars. But it could just as easily cover the workers to shell pamploma.

Note: Ok MZ I used paragraphs, though it does throw off the whole stream of conciousness thing. . Though actually I had to edit it, becasue it seems to eliminate my indentation.(that actually might have been the problem all along and I didn't notice it)

Note2: I didn't see GKs post before I posted. Would you prefer we hold off moving the Toledo Diversionary Force(TDF) until we have more troops in the south.

Behold his second paragraph!

Can we get the first one broken up a bit more next time?

ND cannot be the cleanup. Roleplay and GS go after us and before ND, anything we don't kill or leave behind will be long gone before ND gets a chance to attack them.

Ghengis, sorry I wasn' clear on the cleaning up after us idea. I meant that more in a location rather than a turn since. For example they can attack designated for ND attack, right before they send us the turn. Then we attack, say the hill w of barcelona and fortify all. this cuts off all Gs force w of there and then they can be kill piecemeal by ND. Obviously much depends on how Gs reacts. Actually I suspect they will not even atatck panzer since units that atttck him could easily be killed unless they want o refortify that hill.

An observation, relating to how a diverisonary force could open up the south. We can basically have barcelona in 2 turns and there is no way for them to get reinforcemnts there if they have moved north.

Looking at the map an idea occured to me. If a road was built on the desert s,se of alamo, a force of 3 movenent units could be on the hill w,nw of barcelona in 1 turn from start. Also I noticed that from the wheat near that southernmost city of ours(can't see the name). A force can attack where Gs has located their large MI force(protected by a lone pike).

Another thing that must be done is that the road 2w of barcelona MUST be destoyed. But if we maintain our scout "sir ennet" where he is, then that could happen.

Is gs' delay a bluff or a sign of real indecison and surprise. i honestly think that there is real surprise and shock because NOBODY in their right mind would put 8 catapults where they could be taken so easily.

Also this brings in another question. "How well do GS and RP work together", I mean rp must be royally upset that GS just handed us 8 catapults that will certainly be used against them. Also as GF mentioned in another thread a complaint from rp about how gs is causing them movement problems. Do any of ya'll who have a wider interaction than me sense anything from RP of GS on this or opther things

We can stir the pot.

Simple post on the main forum thanking GS for the catapults.. which will make the assault & siege on Pampalona so much easier.

Or do it in the what if thread.

What if GS actually put more pikes covering those catapults?

But I am also cool with keeping it quiet

actually I was considering that in the What if thread too. but I want to wait to see the situation. Of course this implies we'll see the save one day. I did think about asking another question. "Why did RP with all those pike leave Salamanca basically undefended. I am truly curious, becasue it was in many ways better than Pamploma defensivly or at the very least as good or why they didn't attack as that turn. They had to have figured we lost enough riders to make it vulnerable.

Lets blast 'em again. ND captures the cats and blasts them then we capture the cats and blast them again. We are getting more Riders in Alamo this turn? Then we can maybe use the ones from the Alamo...

Just a minute... what units are in that RP stack N of The Alamo?

Do we have enough Workers to finish that road west of the Cats?

I have no problem with the double blast of catapults, although on our turn we may want to move them rather than attack with them to get them up to the Alamo.

Still I would rather keep them and upgrade them to Cannons that risk losing them at this point.

ND could move their Defensive stack onto that tile where the Workers are west of the Cats and next turn move to the Hill where the Cats currently are.

If we got two turns of bombarding the GS units and then fortified the Stack they might seriously think twice before attacking it.

If ND does take the Cats and bombards, they need to offer us a Peace Treaty AND Right of Passage and click accept so that we can move our Riders into the Alamo.

Yeah, what's in the RP stack?

If we can absorb an attack from it, blast em again. ND uses cats, and attacks the stack, we clean up.

I don't think there's enough workers there for a road, GF.

CAN you offer an ROP at the same time as peace?

I thought you had to have peace accepted first...

If not, I would prefer to pull the Cats back and let our units heal for a turn. We can make posts supporting the theory that we wiped all our reserves last turn and are holding on by the last thread.

Maybe they'll fall for it and charge into the open so we can massacre them (instead of staying on the hill).

This could support the reason we were real quiet about the combat last turn and only MZ mentioned it.

An Rop can be offered with peace. It lux/resourse that can't. The workers would take 2 turns to road. Here's an idea, have nd move the workers 1north. We take them and start roading this turn. They only have 3 knights in that stack, so 4 riders would be sufficient to portect them. this gives us a 1turn move from the Alamo to the barclona hills. Do the math, that force is 2 turns from barcelona now(except for knights).

About the RP stack. No matter what we will have 7 riders moving into "the Alamo" this turn and it also now has barracks. It can absrb any attack that can be thrown at it. At most that stack could have 4 offesnive units.

About the Gs stack. My instinct as always is to ATTACK. If we did that here is how it would work out IMHO. Note that GS did not FORTIFY ALL
1)8 catapults shoot, let's say they hit 1/2 the time.
Result 4 pikes are reduced to 3/4 and rest of units are 4/4.
2)Nd attacks with say 5(2 elite) units
a) for the 2 elite the odds are about 50/50 so 1ND dead,1GS dead.
b) the other ND units attack odds are 4/8.5 in each assault. Roughly even. lets say they win 1 and lose two.
After this round Gs has 4 3/4 pikes and 1 weak knight and 1 weakened pike+5 MI.

3) We attack with our 10 riders(but first we get the catpultsand atatck).
a)catapults fire, same as last. The 4 3/4 pikes take the attack and go to 2/4.
b) We attack, 1st 4 defensive units will be MI, in these 4 attacks we will probably win 3 and lose 1.
c)we now have 7 riders vs roughly 5, 2/4 pikes and 1 2/4 knights and 1 1/4 MI.
Now the 2/4 pikes take over for defense again against our next 5and the knight defends the sixth. We win 4 of these 6
d) We now have the following 1 full riders vs 2 1/4 pikes and 2 1/4 MI.
After that attack(assuming we win) the Gs force on the hill are at 1/4 pike and 2 1/4 MI. This force can't counterattack. but neither is it destroyed.

But, there really is no need to attack and here's why. That force on that hill is effectively out of the battle for the barcleona area. We can safetly leave it where it is if we attack barcelona. With ND's defesnive units near there, it ain't going anywhere. We can just save it for target practice later. Isolated and without reinforcements, it is doomed. Our steady resupply of riders will secure alamo as well. Also as GF said if they decided to move into the open we simply kill them there.
either way we win.

I still like the idea of leading GS/Roleplay to believe we are stretched thin and easy pickings in the south now, I would much prefer to pounce on smaller stacks in the open than large consolidated ones fortified in cities.

So we're looking at 3 Knights and 4 Pikemen.

If they can get one victory with that Elite Knight they can move the GL into their capital and use it immediately. Mind you GS got a GL with the very first attack they made with an Elite unit. We just seem to be cursed is all.

Actualy its 3 MI, not knights. The odds of an elite MI beating a 4/4 rider at Alamo is about 42%. The odds of the /44 Mi is 37%. A 3/3 musket has the same effective defense as the 4/4 riders.

To be honest I believe these moves show that we are horrible underestimated by RP and GS. Also the good news is that there are less units in pamploma, though still too many too attack.

Also note the new jungle road that we just completed. so now we have a straight shot down to this area.

Late edit: I also suggested to ND that they move those catapults onto the road and then we take them and put them at Alamo. We can then shell the force into oblivion.

I do not think they have factored into their estimates the fact that we have a road connecting to our homeland.

And that we can move many units down that road for reinforcements. Hopefully, they will start to **** some really pointy bricks when the Diversionary Force shows up outside Toledo.

do you guys think they took enough units out of Pamplona for us to attack it? If we did take it, it would mean a huge RP salient gone... btw I'm talking about using the Riders near Lowenmut. Just an idea...
