To love or to lost... Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Let's get to some deep philosophy (or at least some marginally pseudo-intellectual drival)... is it better to have loved or to have lost?

I was a stupid teenager. I can' believe the number of times girls hinted at or out right told me they were interested in me but I was such a stupid SOB that I didn't pick up on it until it was much to late.

Yeah, the horribly self-humiliating experience of thinking a girl liked you, but she didn't, really sucks. But what I'm wondering is the kind of experience where you really let your guard down and invite a girl to run wild through the field of your emotions (not that I've been scarred or anything... heh). Where she really means it, but then after a while... doesn't. I'm just wondering how people get over it, and reclaim that naive romantic notion of something greater than yourself. Or am I just being a foolish romantic?

isn't it supposed be something like "better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all"?

i mean, the way it's phrased now, i don't think anybody would really be in favor of "lost"... most people seem to enjoy "love", so...

Of course it's better to have loved and lost. Consider that as one of life's defeats, from which you can learn for a better fight next time.

What do you mean get over it?

You never really will get over it. The best thing to do is be yourself and to be comfortable enough with yourself that it doesn't matter to you whether there is a SO in it or not...

C'est la vie.

The worst is thinking some really cute guy is looking at you, but he's really looking at his own reflection in the mirror behind you.

Or at the cute girl standing right behind you.

Or at the tree behind you, and hasn't even noticed you.

But I'm not insecure, or anything. I'm just a realist. ;p

i suppose it might be better to love and lose than to never love at all.

but don't we all abhor pain? to love and lose would create oodles of pain, while to never love would keep you in a state of ignorant bliss...

Tell that to an old maid who is so lonely that she has to get 15 cats to keep her company. I think it is worth the chance of pain to attempt love. Besides, no matter the outcome they are both reasons to drink

Certainly it does, but letting your own yearning to fester within creates even greater pain that lingers for ages.

I know, I had been there

Of course, such liaisons do not necessarily cause problems but they often can.

I'm going to go with "loved and lost". There's a certain emptiness to a life without love. Even if you've lost it, at least it was there, for a time. As for the ****ging question, better to keep the friend.

Depends on whether said friend is in the process of becoming your SO.

Not thinking of that kind of situation. In those situations the sex issue is not nearly as prickly the morning after.

I'm not afraid of pain. I just asked my best friend to hit me as hard as he can, and it really wasn't all that bad.
