WASHINGTON — Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (search) told U.S. investigators that he first began plotting the attacks with terrorist leader Usama bin Laden (search) in 1996 and envisioned using 10 planes for suicide hijackings.

After examining interrogation reports, The Associated Press learned that Mohammed said the original scheme involved the hijacking of five commercial airliners on each U.S. coast, 10 planes in total.

Mohammed also divulged that, in its final stages, the hijacking plan called for as many as 22 terrorists and four planes in a first wave, followed by a second wave of suicide hijackings that were to be aided possibly by Al Qaeda (search) allies in southeast Asia, according to the reports obtained by the AP.

That Al Qaeda leader that was captured in Thailand last week has confessed that Al Qaeda wanted to do a repeat of the 9/11 attacks except in southeast Asia. Supposedly, Al Qaeda was going to hijack planes during the Asia-Pacific Economic confrence and then use them as missiles to kill the 21 heads of state who are going to Bangkock this week.

Oh the irony...

The government argues it can't allow a capital defendant (Moussaoui) access (even in a closed proceeding with normal classified information procedures used by the Federal courts) to KSM or Ramsi Binalshibh due to the extreme national security risk of their testifying in a closed proceeding , but it's apparently not that big of a deal to leak interrogation transcripts to the press.

Especially if it's good to ratchet up the scare-o-meter now that we have that 87 billion for the Iraq war in front of Congress, and maybe we can discuss some of those extension to the PATRIOT act while we're at it?

This could also be a bunch of hot gass this guy is putting out of his mounth to get attention and try to scare people. I could also plan to destory the whole earth, does not mean I can do it. Same with Al Qaeda. I heard some people on the news say how scary this. Why is it? Just because someone planes such attacks does not mean they can do it.

As for those who base fox news, other media sources make misstakes too. I remember CNN big time misstakes as well as the New York Times, so just relax.

What can Al Qaeda do more to the United States?
They would have a hard time doing a repeat of 9-11, and they know that.

I could see that they could sneak some sucide bombers into the US through Mexico or Canada, but how many people could they get? Not that many.

Only thing I could see them doing is buying a nuke and blowing a city up, but you just dont find nukes in the store down the street.

So I am scared of Al Qaeda? No. I have a much greator chance dieing in car accident then I do at the hands of an Al Qaeda terrorist.

That is what they claimed they planed, but did they really? How of this is just the guy just saying stuff to scare people and how much of it is real? If they really did plan this, then it shows they were only able to put half of their plan into effect. If this is so, this shows that they are not all that great in carrying out their plans.

Perhaps, but it's certainly more believable considering the fact that they pulled something off, rather than some random threat from some random group that certainly no one could take seriously.

did they say what the targets were? That's the only thing I'm curious about.

I'm trying to think of west coast targets.

golden gate bridge maybe. They may just fly it into one of the big buildings in LA.

I wonder if they planned on hitting Las Vegas. They may have thought about the Hoover Dam, but that is a very difficult target to hit with a jetliner.

As for the subject at hand, did FOX News give credit to The Associated Press in its story. The AP had an exhaustively detailed *exclusive* story on the wires last night, and, frankly, I really doubt that FOX (or CNN for that matter) did their homework. So the least they'd better have done is give credit to the AP.
