Hell yeah...I remember this one now.

My brother and I used to play these old C64 games together (or rather I played and he watched...I was 12 years at the time, he was 5).

This game is called "Save New York"

But of course it's "Save New York".

One of the greatest games I have ever played. So simple, and so fun. Both single player and multiplayer options were addictive and I played the game a lot.

I was known among my friends as "King of the subway". You can still play it using C64 simulation on PC. I don't know what it would be like without joysticks though.

And so Asmodean, fellow veteran gamer, it's your turn, courtesy of CapTVK who busted my game in 10 minutes, but felt he had plenty of trophies already.

Heeeeeerreess the next one:

Year: 1990
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Platform: DOS
Genre: Strategy

Clue #1) The graphics were a mild revolution for that era. Rotatable and zoomable 3D

Giving the publisher name might be a little bit too revealing... (Don't know how many games EA published at that time)

...not that I know what game you're talking about anyway...

It depends...this game is definately known for the developer. Had I given that, everyone and his mother would have guessed it right off the bat.

If nobody googles it, the publisher info isn't that helpful.

Well there weren't that many popular strategy games from that era. What is more I played the vast majority, and I expect CoT is the same.

indeed Dr.Spike, after i had got scrolling shooters and platform games out my system through the 80's, i became a strat-whore, and as it was an emerging genre i think i played most of them.

Ok sorry for the delay

This was a game that had real charm. Great graphics, music and sound. I think it only came out on 8bit computers, not sure about pc.

i'll try a CapTVK,
as means to try to sway
the brain cells growing dim
so lets just begin

[ - ok no i'll stop right now! ]

So the era would be around mid to late 80's

Clue 1: twinkle my forest.

No not that one either.

Clue3: it was an action game, but with a really zany twist that made it stand out from the crowd.

EDIT: lateral thought - think Lord of The Rings in conjuction with the other clues and it might jog something?

Buck......tut tut.... [pm me what you think it is ]

Well i would attach a sound file........but i can only find ones in .sid format which i think is the origonal C64 sound chip?

Anyway the version i played was the Atari 800 and it had maybe the best graphics of the lot(unless it got 16bit releases?).

there were a couple of possible semi-red herrings in my clues....to try to avoid the 'googlers'

Clue4: it was a real tough game and i never made it to the final 'third level'.

I was thinking Commando, since it was released for the Atari (and NES I think) and there were lots of trees. But there was blatantly an arcade version, so it probably isn't right.

Hmmm...Commando certainly fits the bill. Especially with the number of levels. But I don't agree with coT that it was a hard game - if indeed it is Commando.

My guess is that Spikey is a winner

Ah music from the 8bit maestro himself - Mr.Rob Hubbard

But no sorry guys its not commando.

I would say this game was no way near as famous as titles like commando, but it did get a decent fan base - those that played it had found a little gem of 8bit[Clue5 follows] magic

oh yeah Asmodean, i forgot to answer your question about my guess of Powermonger - what really made me think of it was the use of the word 'revolutionary' , at the time there weren't that many revoltionary games as programmers were struggleing with hardware limits etc, but Powermonger was definately a revolutionary game at the time, and a damn fine one to boot

A short summary before me move:

Released cira mid-late 80's on 8bit home computers(C64/Atari800 etc),great graphics+music(for the platforms)

Clue1: twinkle 'my' forest
Clue2: think of something that can be seen as ecologicaly a good thing
Clue3: Its an action/arcade type game, with an unusual plot
Clue4: It had three types of level to get through, but was very hard and i never got past the second level.
Clue5: It has some conection to the word 'magic'

In a roundabout way Lord Of The Rings has 'things' in it that reminds me of this game

Please dont force me to use poetry
