I cannot remember the specific title, but over a year ago, I saw a televised documentary where they were discussing the economic impact (positive/negative) on reservation communities.

Someone noted how casinos are actually owned by whites, and as a result, are not really helping the livliehood of Amerindian communities, but is a form of economic control by whites.

If I knew I was going to refer to this documentary a year and a half from now, I would have written down the title of it.

Amerindian is used because enlightened people who know that using the word "Indian" by itself to talk about native Americans is not only wrong, but it's potentially confusing as you mentioned India.


But we enlightened people also realize we cannot get this word "Indian" out of people's minds -- Amerindian is probably the best we will be able to do.
