Production During the GA Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Following the precedent of GA discussions I thought I would open this thread up as well. Basically the topic is what we should build during the GA, whenever or however it's triggered.

Our GA will be 20 turns (obviously). Currently E_T has planned to use 2/3 of the GA (~12 turns) to build military units with the final 1/3 (~8) for improvements in cities.

I don't think we should dedicate so much to the army. Once BFC, Hispanica and Tripoli come online we'll have seven cities capable of producing military units. Thus in 4 turns we'll be able to produce ~7 units. In 8 turns we'll be able to produce ~15. And this isn't even counting our Golden Age. Under the GA those numbers rise even higher.

People want to deliver decisive force, but isn't that pretty decisive even without the GA? Even now our MFG is around 80, while theirs is 35. With BFC, Hispanica and Tripoli ready that goes still higher. Is it really necessary to build 30-35 units with 2/3 of our GA?

Myself and many others I've talked to think that we should dedicate more of the GA towards building city improvements. With enough time we can get Temples in all cities that don't have them + Markets + Libraries. Our GNP can be over double what it was before the war after the GA if enough improvements are made.

So discuss.

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

It depends a bit on whether we're going to attack CFC anytime soon after GCA is down, I think.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I agree we should definitely try to spend as much as possible on building up our cities. Some military build is necessary, but from all accounts we so overmatch GCA, that we need very few reinforcements. This is a big advantage in delaying the GA as long as possible, it gives us flexibility, simply put we know by then what units we need and don't produce units that will sit around taking gold.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I would rather wait a few turns to see how things go versus GCA before commenting here.

I'm going to assume straight up that we're going to leave CFC alone until after they get Chivalry. If this is not the case (i.e. we're going to hit them right after GCA), I think it's clear that we should dedicate our entire GA to military production. Taking on two civs is no small feat.

We will definitely need some marketplaces in order to finance such a huge army. We will soon become bankrupt unless we build some.

With only 2 marketplaces, in Bananatopia and Apolyton, we would rise our GNP with 10% ! (wich means 15 more supported troops, or more money for upgrades, etc)

IMHO markets are the highest priority city improvements right now (well, after the temples, that is). So yes, I vote for more city improvements, especially temples and marketplaces.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

The reason why I'm planning 2/3rd of the GA for Mil Production, Is incase things do not go right. This is being as conservative as I can try to be. On the other hand, we need to also make sure that we don't waste our GA and try to build as much as possible.

But until we are, in reality, at the gates of Catchopolis AND we know that CFC is in the war with us, too, can we really say that we will win this conflict.

Also, at that timeframe, any builds that are still in progress can be changed. But we first need to be certain of Victory before we can commit to full Improvement build set.

This thread is most unusual.

The SMC is asking for more infrastructure

The MoI is asking for more units

Being fully confused, I start looking for the nearest Temple in search of enlightenment. Oops, forgot, the nearest temple is 3 turns if by road and 9 turns overland.

I think that answers it.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Assuming the war goes more or less how we've been planning it, I think we should even think of something as small as 1/3 our GA for military planning, with the other 2/3 for building.

Events might force us to go higher, say to 1/2, but honestly I think 2/3 is a tad bit too much considering the already overwhelming strength we have.

While I certainly don't want to underestimate our needs in fighting GCA, I'm going to side with those who want to spend a majority of our GA production on improvements. We are going to need to place the basic improvements of temples, marketplaces, libraries, and aqueducts in every city, eventually building cathedrals or colloseums as well as universities. Since we are WELL behind on that process and it would help immensely to keep us going after the end of the GA, I strongly feel we should use as much of the GA as possible to build these improvements.

That said, there are still some military production needs and I don't think it's unreasonable to use 1/3 to 1/2 of our GA production to build primarily horses, cats, and mercs (since those are going to upgrade to our next generation army of knights, cats, and muskets... eventually to cavalry, cannons, and muskets and then beyond).
